SWPBS Focus: Respect: All Settings
Over the next fortnight, our SWPBS focus will be Respect – All Settings.
At Brookside College, our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Matrix helps students understand the behaviours that support a safe, respectful and positive school environment. Over the next fortnight, we are focusing on Respect and what this looks like across all settings at Brookside
What does Respect look like at Brookside
We follow staff instructions
We listen to and follow instructions from staff. Following instructions helps us learn, keeps everyone safe and ensures our school runs smoothly.
We actively listen
We show respect by giving others our attention when they are speaking. This means listening without interrupting, considering what others have to say and responding appropriately.
We use respectful language
We choose words and a tone that show respect for others. We can disagree, solve problems and express how we feel while still speaking to others appropriately.
We respect personal space, privacy and property
We respect the boundaries and belongings of others. This means giving people appropriate personal space, respecting their privacy, asking permission before touching or using someone else's belongings and treating school property with care.
Respect is something we can practice every day. Families can support this focus by talking with children about what respectful behaviour looks like, sounds like and feels like at school, at home and in the community.
Looking ahead to 2027
Our SWPBS and Engagement and Wellbeing Team is currently working with stakeholders from across the Brookside community to review our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Matrices. This process will help us identify what is working well, where improvements can be made and ensure our matrices continue to reflect the needs and expectations of our whole school community.
Feedback from our students, staff and families will help inform any changes, with our updated matrices planned to be launched in 2027.
