🌱 Seeds, Soil & Scrumptious Creations!

Our Grade 3 students have continued to be wonderfully busy in both the Kitchen and Garden over the past few weeks! There has been plenty of planting, harvesting, cooking and learning, with students developing their confidence and skills while discovering just how much our garden can provide.

🧺 A Bumper Garden Harvest!

One of the highlights of our recent garden sessions was harvesting a beautiful basket of fresh produce from our school garden. The students were very excited to see just how much we had grown and were able to collect!

Our harvest included lots of silverbeet, rainbow chard, wombok cabbage, iceberg lettuce, herbs galore and plenty of juicy lemons.

🌻 Getting Ready for Summer

While some students have been busy harvesting what is ready to eat now, others have been preparing our garden for the warmer months ahead.

Our students have been busily potting up summer seeds, carefully filling pots with potting mix, planting seeds and making sure they have everything they need to get started.

There is something very exciting about seeing rows of tiny pots filled with the promise of our next garden harvest!

We are especially hoping our pumpkin seeds take off and thrive, so we can look forward to watching them grow into big, healthy pumpkin plants over the coming months.

👩‍🍳 Back in the Kitchen

Our Grade 3 students have been putting their garden produce to good use in the kitchen. Building on the skills they have developed earlier in the term, students have continued to practise safe food preparation, good hygiene, teamwork and safe use of kitchen equipment.

The students are becoming increasingly confident when working together in their teams. They are learning to follow recipes carefully, measure ingredients, share responsibilities and most importantly, clean up after themselves!

Saving Seeds from Our Giant Zucchini!

We have also been making the most of last year's bumper zucchini crop by saving seeds for future planting.

Students have been busy deseeding our giant zucchini, carefully removing and collecting the seeds so that we can dry and save them for another growing season. This has provided a fantastic hands-on opportunity to learn about the life cycle of plants and how we can save seeds from one year's crop to help grow the next.

And just how many seeds did we find?

A whopping 211 seeds! 😲🌱
