Art Club – Young Artists

Our Art Club gives children a chance to explore their creativity through drawing, painting, collage and craft. The children enjoy experimenting with different colours, shapes, lines and materials while developing their own ideas. These artworks show the imagination, creativity and enjoyment of our young artists.

Prep and Year 1 Artwork

Our Prep and Year 1 students have enjoyed exploring art through drawing, painting, collage and creative craft activities. They have experimented with colours, shapes, lines and different materials to create their own unique artworks. Each piece shows the children’s creativity, imagination and growing confidence as young artists.

🎨Grade 2: From Design to Build

Our Grade 2 artists have been busy designing, building and creating!

What started as a simple paper bag is quickly transforming into a collection of imaginative homes, each one bursting with personality. Students used their designs as a guide to add windows, doors and roofs before turning their attention to the gardens and landscapes surrounding their homes.

There has been plenty of cutting, folding, layering and experimenting along the way. Students have also been exploring the fringing technique to create textured grass, adding another dimension to their miniature worlds. 

The best part? Seeing each student’s ideas take shape and watching their homes become more detailed with every lesson.

With construction almost complete, we’re excited to see these little houses ready to become big pieces of imagination!

🎨 Grade 3: Exploring Yayoi Kusama

This term, our Grade 3 artists have taken inspiration from the distinctive work of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Students explored the impact of colour, pattern and repetition, experimenting with ways these elements can transform a simple design into something bold and eye-catching.

After developing their own designs, students patiently built their artworks layer by layer before adding the final details with Posca markers. The result is a wonderful collection of colourful and imaginative pieces, each with its own unique character.

A special note: We recently learned of the passing of Yayoi Kusama, who died in August 2026 at the age of 97. Her extraordinary artistic career spanned more than seven decades, and her distinctive use of dots, repetition and colour has left a lasting mark on the art world. It is wonderful to see our Grade 3 students continuing to explore and be inspired by her unique artistic style.

Did you know? Kusama’s exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria attracted more than 570,000 visitors, setting a new attendance record for the NGV.

🎨 Grade 5: From Lotería to Hojalata

Our Grade 5 artists have been diving into the colour, symbolism and bold imagery of Mexican folk art, taking inspiration from the traditional game of Lotería and the decorative tin tradition known as hojalata.

Students began by creating their own Lotería-inspired designs, selecting symbols, objects and images that sparked their imagination or held personal meaning. From playful characters and animals to objects and symbols, each design has its own story to tell. 🎨✨

Now comes the exciting part!

Students are beginning to transfer their designs onto aluminium, experimenting with embossing techniques to push, shape and texture the metal. What looks like a simple sheet of aluminium is about to become something much more detailed and expressive!

We’re looking forward to seeing these designs evolve as our Grade 5 artists transform their sketches into bold, textured works of art.
