In Reading and Writing, Grade 3 students have been focusing on the text ‘The Mess That We Made’ by Julia Blatmman and Michelle Lord. The book is about ocean plastic pollution. In reading students have focused on the causes and effects of pollution in our oceans. They have explored the small steps we can take to help minimise pollution and have analysed the illustrations in the book. In writing, student shave been using the text and informative videos to use as evidence in their non-fiction texts. Students have been focusing on independently editing and revising their work, as well as focusing on a variety of prefixes as part of our spelling and grammar lessons.
In Maths, students have been focusing on multiplication, division and location. Students have been identifying the important information in worded problems. Then, using this information to create a matching bar model and solve the equation. Students have been learning about multiplication and division fact families and how these facts can help us to solve both multiplication and division problems. Student have been using directional language to locate items in their classroom and have started to draw their own birds eye view maps.
In Science, students have been focusing on solids, liquids and gases. Students have learned new vocabulary such as condensation. The highlight of the unit would have to be our open classroom activity where we made Oobleck. We identified Oobleck, as being a non-Newtonian fluid which means it acts as a solid when force is applied and liquid when you let it flow.
In Humanities, the focus has been Geography. Students have been learning about different Australian landmarks, exploring deserts, rainforests and The Great Barrier Reef. Students have also been exploring places in their local area.
In Health, students have learned about Cyber-Safety. Students have learned how to be responsible, respectful, to trust their feelings and to question things they might read online. Students have learned how to manage online situation and how they can seek support. Students also engaged in an incursion about Cyber-Safety.
In our Respectful Relationships unit, students have focused on stress and problem solving. They ranked problems on a scale of been minor or major, as well as discussing different ways they can approach or solve problems.
Lastly, we cannot wait for our team building days! In the last week of term, we are heading to Zone Bowling and Entertainment Complex. The next day, we have a whole day of engaging in team building activities.
We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

Year 4
What an amazing term it has been!
Here’s a look at what we’ve been learning in Year 4 this Term.
Reading
In Reading, students read the book ‘Leo and Ralph’ and further developed their comprehension skills such as answering questions and using evidence to support their thinking. They ended their reading unit by reading a range of biographies from well known people. Students quite enjoyed learning new facts about Bruce Lee, Rafa Nadal and Helen Keller.
Writing
In Writing, students have focused on planning a narrative focusing on the settings, characters, problem and solution. They focused on the ‘Show Don’t Tell’ where they used descriptive words such as adjectives to describe what is happening without telling the audience. Students also used their five senses to help build a stronger description of their setting.
Humanities
This Term, students have been learning about the seven continents, and how the equator divides the earth in the northern and southern hemispheres. They also learnt all about the North and South Pole and how they are unique places on earth.
Science
This term, students have looked at different types of materials and their properties and investigated man made and natural materials. To end the unit, students designed a protective wrapping for an egg using different materials. Students reflected on which materials protected the egg the best when dropped.
Mathematics
In Maths, students have been focusing on Fractions. They learnt about equivalent fractions, fractions on a number line, converting improper fractions to mixed fractions. To end the unit, students learnt about decimals and the connection between decimals and fractions. They learnt about time, reading time to the nearest minute, 5-minute intervals, elapsed time and how to read a timetable.

Year 5
Term 3 has been very exciting for our Year 5’s!
In Reading, we have almost finished our class novel, Tom Appleby Convict Boy, by Jackie French. We are so excited to discover what becomes of Tom, a young, orphaned convict sent to the Australian colonies in the 1780’s.
In Writing, we are exploring how to switch between a narrative and an informative voice, as we write a non-fiction hybrid text about an Australian animal. We are practicing many different writing skills, such as creating contrast, emotion and imagery. We are very excited to publish our work into our very own picture story book!
In Math, we have been exploring probability and chance experiments! We have been learning about outcomes, fair and unfair experiments and the probability of various events. We are building toward our end of term project, where we will create our own chance game!
In Science, we have participated in many different hands-on experiments, exploring chemical processes such as dissolving, separating, purifying and mixing. We have been learning about solids, gases and liquids.
On Tuesday 15th September, we will participate in our Science Incursion, which will involve lots of practical activities related to states of matter.
In Humanities, students have been practicing their entrepreneurship, developing a product/service that solves an identified problem. They have had to consider their target market, their pricing and their competition.
On Thursday 17th September, Year 5 students will propose their business idea to various ‘Sharks’ in our Year 5 Shark Tank.

Year 6
Year 6 students have been doing some fantastic learning over the past few weeks and should be very proud of their efforts!
Below are some students from 6A who would like to share some of the things we have been learning about over the past few weeks that they are particularly proud of and have enjoyed learning about.
We encourage families to regularly check Seesaw to see what students are working on and to stay up to date with our current learning.
Elif – Science
During a science experiment, we mixed milk and vinegar and stirred it with a spoon. It started to turn thick and change colour. We made a prediction of what we thought would happen and drew what we observed. In science, I like working in a group. It is fun to do experiments and predict what will happen.
Aisha – Non-Fiction Writing
I enjoyed expressing how characters felt through my writing. I wrote about rations and how families didn’t have enough food to eat. A fact I learnt about WWII was that fresh vegetables and fruits were not available during that time.
Saja – Themes in the book Then
I enjoyed reading Once and Then because they were interesting, and I liked learning about the Holocaust and about how it was for children at that time. I inferred some of the themes in Then using examples from the text. Felix was a kind person who showed respect to everyone, even though he was Jewish and living a hard life.
Selin – Maths
In maths, we have been learning about how to solve the order of operations. For example, (6 + 2) × 4 = 32 because you do the brackets first, 6 + 2 = 8 and 8 × 4 = 32, so there’s the answer. I like doing this maths problem because it’s fun.
Abigail – Historical Fiction Writing
In writing, we have just finished our historical narratives. I loved doing it because I love writing stories and learning about history. For my narrative, I did Ancient Egypt. It has such an interesting history, and it was so fun. Some facts I learnt were that the Nile has an underwater city!
