Taking the mark for Devils

IIt has been a big year for football in Tassie as we head towards entry into the AFL in 2028.
The ‘reconstituted’ Tassie Devils side has been accepted into the VFL competition by way of preparation for that long sought inclusion. The Devils side has performed creditably over its initial nine games with five wins, a draw and three losses.
There have been five Old Viriglians representing the team: Sam Siggins (SVC 2007-2010) Nathaniel Sulzberger (SVC 2018-22), Darcy Gardner (SVC 2016-19), Will Splann (SVC 2014-18) and Oscar Paprotny (SVC 2014-17).
Siggins had the honour of kicking the first goal for the ‘new’ Devils.
ALLIES REPRESENTATION
Three Tasmanians were selected in the Allies team for the 2026 National Under 18 Australian Rules Carnival.
The Allies is a team selected from ACT, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Tasmania, and Queensland and it competes against the South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria Metro and Victoria Country. These teams represent the highest level of under 18 talent in Australia, providing a pathway to the AFL draft.
Of the three to represent Tasmania, two have St Virgil’s connections — Jake Beams, currently in Year 10 and Archie Devine (SVC 2022-25). Furthermore, Hugh McCallum (SVC 2022-25) would have been included had he not suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
