King's Birthday Awards

Congratulations to the following three former students of St Virgil’s College who were the recipients of  the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours.

Member of the Order of Australia (AM)

Dr Andrew Mulcahy (SVC 1967-73) — for his significant service to medical administration and anaesthetics.

In addition to his regulatory work and clinical career, Dr Mulcahy has contributed to the medical profession in Tasmania and nationally over many decades, including through his long-standing involvement with the Australian Medical Association (AMA).

AMA Tasmania President Dr Michael Lumsden-Steel said the honour recognised a lifetime of service.

“Dr Andrew Mulcahy AM has given outstanding service to medicine, to the profession and to AMA over many years. This is fitting recognition of a lifetime of contribution. That kind of sustained service over so many decades is becoming rarer, and it deserves to be recognised and celebrated.”

Mr Roger Viney (SVC 1956-62) — for his service to the community of Hobart.

Roger has devoted decades of voluntary service to a remarkable range of organisations. He has helped Ten Lives, Clarence Football Club, Rostrum Club 2 and Tasmanian Rostrum, the Howrah Community Centre, the Southern Football League, AFL Tasmania, the Lindisfarne Rowing Club, and numerous junior football and netball organisations.

Across each of these roles, Roger has consistently stepped up to take on leadership positions, mentor others and strengthen the organisations he serves.
