Year 4 News

Welcome to Week 9, not long to go until our holiday break, and it feels as if the term has just flown by.
This week, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to our students who celebrated the Sacrament of Eucharist. What a beautiful and meaningful occasion it was for our school and parish community. We have been blessed to witness our students take this important step in their faith journey.
As part of our preparation, we participated in a retreat day filled with the joy of Jesus, prayer, reflection, and meaningful discussion. We explored the significance of the Eucharist and reflected on what it means to live a Eucharistic life, one that is centred on gratitude, service, compassion, and love. Through prayerful conversations and personal reflection, we considered how we can bring Christ's presence into our daily lives and communities.
In TRP (The Resilience Project), we have been exploring mindfulness through meditative walking. During these experiences, we have practised slowing down, taking notice of our surroundings, and becoming fully present in the moment. We have learned that when we pause and pay attention to what we can see, hear, feel, and notice around us, we help our brains move out of a heightened emotional state. This gives our amygdala time to settle and allows our prefrontal cortex (the thinking part of our brain) to better understand and manage our emotions, helping us make thoughtful choices and respond calmly to challenges.
In Writing, we continue to unpack Storm Boy through both the original text and the film adaptation. We have been examining the different ways each version begins, discussing the change in perspective, and analysing how relationships are developed and portrayed across text and media. These rich discussions are helping us deepen our comprehension skills and understand how authors and filmmakers use different techniques to tell a story and connect with an audience.
Thank you to all families for your flexibility and support in booking Student-Led Conversations during Week 1 of Term 3. We are looking forward to welcoming you into our classroom as students share their learning, growth, achievements, and goals. These conversations provide a wonderful opportunity for students to reflect on their progress and celebrate their learning journey with those who support them most.
As we approach the holiday break, we would also like to wish Ms Karalis a wonderful and well-deserved holiday in Scotland. We hope she enjoys spending time with family and creating many special memories. We are excited to hear about her adventures and look forward to welcoming her back next term.
