Foundation News

Whilst it was a short week, it was certainly a busy one in Foundation! We have been working hard on building our independence as we inch closer to our 100 Days of School celebration next term. It has been wonderful to see students becoming positive self-managers as they confidently follow our morning routine independently and take increasing responsibility for their learning.
In Literacy, our students have been developing their understanding of what makes a successful writer and have been setting individual writing goals using our success criteria. As successful writers, students are working hard to include capital letters at the beginning of sentences, full stops at the end of sentences, finger spaces between words, and the sounds they can hear at the beginning, middle and end of words. They are also beginning to incorporate some of the tricky words we have been learning. We are incredibly proud of the progress students are making and look forward to sharing their amazing growth in writing with families during our upcoming Learning Conversations.
In Numeracy, we have been exploring teen numbers and the concepts of more and less. Students have been developing their understanding that teen numbers are made up of one ten and some ones. We have been using ten frames, hands-on materials and number activities to represent teen numbers and investigate what happens when we find one more or one less than a given number.
As part of our Inquiry learning, we have been taking inspiration from the interviews students conducted with their grandparents and family members. We are now learning about games from the past and discovering how children played before many of the technologies we have today existed. Students are becoming experts on these traditional games as they prepare for a special showcase.
On Wednesday 24th June, families are warmly invited to join us for our Games from the Past Showcase. Students will share their learning and teach visitors how to play some of the games they have been exploring. Parents and family members are welcome to visit our learning spaces from 2:30pm to see our students in action. We would love for you to come along, have some fun, and learn a few games from the past with us!
