SPECIALIST FEATURE NEWS
你 好 (ni hao) Welcome to our Specialists’ corner!
What an amazing Science Week! National Science Week is a chance for people all around Australia to discover how science helps us understand the world and inspires us to ask questions, solve problems and make new discoveries.
The theme for Science Week 2026 was "Decoding the Universe – Exploring the Hidden Patterns of Nature." This year's theme encourages us to look closely at the amazing patterns, systems and mysteries that exist all around us - from the tiny cells in our bodies to the stars and galaxies in space. It reminds us that science helps us uncover how our world works.
To explore this theme in a hands-on and memorable way, our students spent their Science lesson this week investigating properties of cloud dough. They investigated the texture, shape, volume, colour and flexibility of the cloud dough. Students used their senses and observations to describe what they noticed and explored how the dough could be changed and manipulated. They squeezed, stretched, moulded and reshaped the dough, making predictions and discussing what happened when they applied different amounts of pressure.
Students discovered that scientists do not simply look at something – they investigate it carefully, ask questions, collect information and look for patterns.
There was plenty of excitement as the students explored the dough with their hands and senses. For those classes that didn't get to participate in any experiments this week will still have a chance to make their cloud dough in the following weeks.
Happy Science Week 2026! 🔬☁️✨
