Principal's Message

New Newsletter Sections

This term, we are excited to introduce a few new sections in our school newsletter to keep families better informed about the great work happening across MPRPS.

Curriculum and Learning

Amanda, our Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning, will provide regular updates on curriculum, teaching and learning across the school. This section will give families an insight into what our students are learning and highlight some of the exciting learning opportunities happening in classrooms.

Wellbeing at MPRPS

Our Wellbeing Team, Jonny, Kate and Mel will also have a dedicated page in the newsletter. Here, families can find information about wellbeing supports, programs, resources and upcoming events that support the social and emotional wellbeing of our students.

News from the Office

Our Office Team, Meg, Lou and Sarah will also have a dedicated section with helpful information and updates for families. This will include reminders and information about school uniform, Compass, lunch orders, administration matters and other important school updates.

Parent Opinion Survey 2026

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The link will be sent via Compass on Monday.

The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

Facilities updates

We are currently undertaking a number of minor repairs and upgrades across the school to maintain and improve our facilities.

The works currently underway include roof repairs to the 3/4G and 3/4J classrooms, an electrical switchboard upgrade, sanding of the Art Room wooden floor, and external painting to sections of the Senior Building, where our Year 5/6 classes are located.

These works are part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, well-presented learning environment for our students and staff.

Oval upgrade

I am also excited to announce that during the September school holidays, we will be returfing our school oval.

For many years, the oval has been uneven and, during the warmer and drier months, the grass has struggled to maintain good coverage. We are therefore very pleased that the first phase of improvements to this important school space is now not far away.

Over the coming years, we will continue to explore further opportunities to improve the oval and surrounding areas. We look forward to consulting with our school community as we consider what these future improvements could look like for our community.

For now, we are delighted that the first step will be addressing the uneven surface and establishing a new, healthier turf area for our students to enjoy.

To allow the new turf to establish properly, the oval will be closed throughout the September holidays and for the first two weeks of Term 4. We appreciate everyone’s patience while the turf takes root and look forward to seeing the oval back in use once it is ready.

COLA- Covered Outdoor Learning Area

We are also working towards an exciting improvement,  a Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) on the back basketball court.

The COLA will provide students with a sheltered space that can be used throughout the year, offering protection from the sun during hot weather and shelter during wet weather. This will create a more flexible and usable outdoor space for learning, play and school activities.

Our School Council is currently working with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) as we progress this project. We recognise that major school improvement projects take time, and there are a number of planning and approval processes involved. We are working towards the construction of the COLA in 2027.

Community Crafternoon

Next week the Wellbeing Team will be hosting a Community Crafternoon, and you’re all invited!

Join us in the hall from 3:00–4:00pm (or drop in at any time that suits you) to say hello, take part in a simple craft activity to enjoy at home with your family, and connect with the Wellbeing Team.

Senior Athletics

The Senior House Athletics Carnival has now gone live on Compass with all the important information for families.

We are looking forward to a fantastic day of athletics, House spirit and plenty of opportunities for our students to participate, challenge themselves and support their teammates.

The weather is looking favourable, with a forecast of around 20 degrees and the possibility of a few showers throughout the day. We encourage students to come prepared for changing conditions by bringing a water bottle, lunch, wearing appropriate clothing and packing a rain jacket if needed.

We look forward to seeing our students getting involved, cheering on their Houses and enjoying what promises to be a great day!

Thank you Joe Miller

A big thank you to parent of Max and Beau, Joe, who took three of our woodworking tables home over the school holidays and did a fantastic job restoring them. Joe sanded and refinished the table tops, cleaned up and repaired the vices, and added wheels to one side of each table to make them much easier to move around. We really appreciate the time, effort and care Joe put into giving these tables a new lease on life!

Trivia Night-Bookings are open

Our School Trivia Night is coming up, and we still have four tables to fill!

This is always a fantastic opportunity for our school community to come together, enjoy a fun night out and put your general knowledge to the test. Whether you are a trivia expert or simply looking for a great night with friends, we would love to see you there.

If you haven’t yet organised a team, now is the perfect time to get your friends together and book a table.

Pre-loved Book Stall

On Friday 11 September the SRC's will be holding a Pre-Loved Book Stall!

To help us stock our stall, we are asking families to donate pre-loved books from home that are in good condition and ready to be enjoyed by another avid reader.

Books can be dropped off at the Office Foyer from Wednesday the 19th of August, in preparation for the stall.

On the day, students will have the opportunity to choose a great pre-loved book for just a $1 donation. All money raised will go towards supporting the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital.

Thank you for helping us give books a new home while supporting such a wonderful cause!
