What an egg-citing week we have had in Foundation!
Our little chicks have certainly been the stars of the show! On Monday, we welcomed two chicks and 11 eggs from Henny Penny Hatching. Throughout the week, we have been lucky enough to watch more chicks hatch, and we now have 10 fluffy little chicks happily living in our pen!
The children have loved learning about how chicks hatch, their features and how they communicate. We even discovered that they can chirp to each other while still inside their eggs! We have also had our Chicken Camera running each day so other classes can tune in and watch the hatchings. Our Foundation students have been keeping a Chicken Journal, recording something special that happens each day, which we will proudly share at our Art Show next term.
A huge thank you to our wonderful Grade 1 teachers for organising this special experience for our Foundation and Grade 1 students. We are so grateful to have been part of such a fun and memorable learning opportunity. A special mention also goes to Mrs Wenkowski, who has become our very own chicken mother hen, making sure our little chicks are safe, warm and dry!
The chicks will be with us until Friday before heading back to the farm with Henny Penny Hatchings. We are definitely going to miss our fluffy friends!
In Maths, we have finished our addition unit and have begun learning about subtraction. We are using lots of subtraction stories to help us understand taking away. At home, you can continue practising addition facts to 20 by encouraging your child to find the larger number and count on.
We would also love your continued support with number formation, particularly as we are noticing some number reversals, as well as practising our tricky words to build reading fluency and confidence with writing.
This week we will be learning about…
- Numeracy- Subtraction
- Reading- revision of letter sounds and digraphs ( ch, v, y, x, wh, th, oo) stretching out words, blending the sounds together and reading tricky words
- Writing- writing our Chicken Journal entries, recording different sounds we can hear in the words we want to write and using full stops
- Inquiry- What do living things need to survive?
- Religion- The Feast of the Assumption

- Thursday 20th August - FOS Class Mass at 9:15 am with 4 ZK
- Monday 24th August - School Closure Day (No school for students)
- Friday 28th August - Book Week Parade
- Thursday 3rd September - FLW Class Mass at 9:15 am with 3 DG
