Year 2 News

How are we already over halfway through the term? Time is certainly flying! It has been wonderful to see how much the students have learned, grown and achieved so far this term. We have been very busy exploring new topics, developing our skills and working together as a class.

As people of faith, we have been learning about the Holy Spirit and how it brings us gifts of love, courage and guidance. We chose a gift we would like to receive and reflected on how we could use it to help ourselves and others. We decorated a flame to represent our learning and have created a beautiful Holy Spirit display in our learning space.

As mathematicians, we have been learning about division by sharing and grouping collections. We investigated the difference between sharing and grouping and explored how the division number sentence changes depending on the problem. We used hands-on materials to help us understand and explain our thinking.

As readers and writers, we have been learning about a range of aquatic animals. We worked in small groups to read facts, identify and highlight key words and phrases, and share our ideas. We then organised our facts into a planning template to help us write a detailed information report next week.

Some of us even had the opportunity to use our Chromebooks and iPads to research some extra facts. We used a child-friendly search engine called Kiddle. This was a little challenging at times, but it was also lots of fun!

A special shout-out to all our Grade 2 students! They are doing an amazing job in the mornings when they arrive in the classroom. We are so proud of the way they are becoming independent learners, calmly walking into the classroom, getting organised and beginning their spelling tasks straight away. They are showing fantastic responsibility, independence and readiness to learn each morning.
