Year 4 News

Happy Week 6! We are looking forward to another exciting week of learning, with Book Week adventures, new mathematical challenges and opportunities to deepen our understanding across the curriculum. As readers, we are pausing The Wild Robot to celebrate Book Week. We will explore a range of Book Week books, making predictions, discussing characters and themes, exploring illustrations and sharing our thoughts about the stories we discover. Students will have opportunities to compare different texts and consider what makes a book engaging, memorable or enjoyable. We are excited to explore some new literary adventures before returning to The Wild Robot next week.

As writers, we have continued to develop our persuasive writing skills. We have explored how writers clearly communicate an opinion and use strong reasons and examples to convince their audience. Students have also practised using persuasive language and organising their ideas into a clear structure.

As mathematicians, we have begun the second part of our Fractions unit. We revisited equivalent fractions and strengthened our understanding of how different fractions can represent the same amount. We also explored the connection between division and fractions, using visual representations and practical examples to explain our thinking.

As members of our faith community, we have continued to unpack the different parts of Mass and develop our understanding of what occurs during the celebration. This week, we focused on the Concluding Rites, exploring the purpose of the final prayers, blessing and dismissal. We considered how the conclusion of Mass sends us out to live our faith through our words and actions.

As inquirers, we have continued investigating Earth's rotation and day and night. We explored how Earth rotates on its axis and how this causes different parts of our planet to experience daylight and darkness. We used models and demonstrations to help us visualise Earth's movement and explain why we experience day and night.
