Year 3
Spotlight on Learning
Ephesus Community
Dear Families,
Students have completed another amazing week of learning, respect and safety in the Ephesus Community in Week 8.
Friday 20th March: HARMONY DAY
Students can wear a touch of Orange such as socks, ribbons, clothes or shoelaces.

Friday 20th March: RIDE TO SCHOOL DAY
Students who actively travel to school on Friday will receive a sticker from Mr O at the Mackillop walkers’ entrance, and staff on duty at the main entrance will also have stickers to hand out.
Active travel has many great benefits for our students. It helps improve physical fitness, builds independence and confidence, and supports mental wellbeing by helping students arrive at school feeling more focused and ready to learn. It’s also a great way to reduce traffic around the school and care for our environment.

Wednesday 25th March: GRADE 3 MASS
We warmly invite all parents, carers, and family members to join us for Grade 3 Mass, beginning at 9:30 AM. It will be a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school community, celebrate our faith, and support the students as they participate in this special event. We look forward to seeing you there and sharing this meaningful occasion with you!
Wednesday 25th March: GRADE 3 RECONCILIATION MASS #1
5pm START @ St Thomas the Apostle Parish
Thursday 26th March: GRADE 3 RECONCILIATION MASS #2
5pm START @ St Thomas the Apostle Parish
Please remember to provide cutlery from home if required for your child's lunch.

Our Grade 3 students had a fantastic time at the Athletics Carnival, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day. From running races to field events, everyone gave their best effort and cheered each other on with big smiles. It was wonderful to see students supporting their peers, celebrating achievements, and demonstrating positive attitudes. Well done to all our Grade 3 students for making it such a fun and successful event!

Religions Education:
Our Grade 3 students attended Mass respectfully and reverently, demonstrating excellent listening and participation throughout the service. They represented our school beautifully with their calm behaviour and thoughtful attitude. We learnt about St Patrick and St Joseph, exploring their lives, values, and the important lessons they teach us about faith, kindness, and courage.
During our Religious Education lessons we discussed 'The Communion Rite' and why we say it three times.
English:
This week we have read 'Off we go around Australia. Four holidays Adventures in One! by Roland Harvey. This fun book takes readers on four exciting holiday adventures across Australia! A family travels to different places, discovering amazing sights, animals, and landmarks along the way. Full of colourful illustrations and humour, it’s a great story about exploring, learning, and having fun as a family.

Grade 3 students have been learning about appositives—words or phrases that give extra information about a noun. They’ve been practising identifying and using appositives to make their writing more interesting and detailed.

Mathematics: Partitioning
Grade 3 students have been learning about partitioning, which means breaking numbers into smaller, easier-to-work-with parts. For example, the number 47 can be partitioned into 40 + 7. Partitioning helps with addition, subtraction, and understanding place value. Students have been practising using this strategy to solve problems more easily and confidently.
We learnt the game 4Up!

Auslan:
Students continue to practice identifying the handshape, location and movement of the below signs.

How you can support at home: Families are key partners in supporting school learning, and there are many easy and practical ways to help at home.
