Year 6

Spotlight on Learning

Bethlehem Community

Dear Families,

The Year 6 students have had a fantastic and engaging week of learning and celebration!

We kicked off the week with Athletics Day, and it was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and participation from all students. Whether competing in events or cheering on their peers, everyone should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Well done to all!

On Friday, students came together to celebrate Harmony Day, focusing on the important values of respect, fairness, and belonging. It was a meaningful opportunity for students to recognise and appreciate the rich diversity within our community, while reflecting on how we can all contribute to an inclusive and welcoming environment.

English

In English, students have been exploring the features of a fable and how to construct their own. This learning is linked to our class novel The Silver Donkey by Sonya Hartnett. Students have been analysing how messages and morals are conveyed through storytelling, and are beginning to craft their own fables that include clear lessons, engaging characters, and thoughtful narratives.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of algebraic thinking. They have been working with input-output machines to recognise patterns, write rules, and make connections between numbers and operations. This has supported their ability to think more abstractly and explain their reasoning.

Religious Education

In Religious Education, we continue to reflect during the Lenten season. Students have been encouraged to show compassion, kindness, and understanding towards one another, while deepening their awareness of the importance of giving, sacrifice, and empathy in their daily lives.

We look forward to another great week of learning in Year 6!
