Our learning this week:

Religious Education:

This week in Religious Education, students have been learning about the season of Lent and how it calls us to follow the mission of Jesus. We explored how we can grow closer to God through prayer and reflection, and how Jesus’ teachings connect to social justice, including respecting human rights, sharing resources and challenging inequality. Students also discussed ways they can live out these values in their everyday lives.

English

This week in English, students have been developing their handwriting by practising speed loops for the letter ‘g’ and improving their typing accuracy and rate. They have been enhancing their sentences by adding adjectives and adverbs, using more interesting verbs, and constructing complex sentences with conjunctions. Students have also been building their reading skills through our class text How Was That Built?, focusing on comprehension, fluency and vocabulary. In Writing, they have been exploring the purpose and structure of explanation texts and have begun planning and writing their own introductions.

Mathematics

This week in Mathematics, students have been investigating the relationship between perimeter and area by comparing different rectangles and exploring how these measurements can change. They have also been learning about decimals, focusing on identifying, representing and reading numbers to the thousandths place.

Integrated Studies

This week, students have been learning to locate continents and oceans around the world. They have been identifying and labelling all continents and the five oceans, using maps, globes and atlases to support their understanding. Students have also been describing the location of different continents and oceans and explaining the difference between them.

Social Emotional Learning:

This week in Social and Emotional Learning, students have been exploring personal and cultural strengths that support fairness and inclusion. They have been identifying different strengths and discussing how these help people treat others with respect and kindness. Students have also reflected on their own strengths and how they can contribute to creating an inclusive classroom community.
