Our Buckley House Ivy Voice students have worked hard to write many articles about events and and learning experiences throughout the Term. Have a read to find out the latest Buckley updates!

Sophia, Year 6, Buckely House 

Recently at Buckley House, the Year 3 to 6 students experienced an unforgettable moment for 2026, Athletics. This is an exciting running sport where the students raced at Chelsworth Park. During the race, runners used endurance, determination, and smart pacing to tackle the challenges on the way, like the wet mud and the slippery grass. Before the race started students trained skilfully in their free time whether that was biking, running, swimming, or walking. It made running long distances even easier. The Ivanhoe Grammar houses, Lincoln, Thoresby, Athelstane, and Sherwood all fought hard for the winning trophy, but in the end Sherwood won!

James, Year 6, Buckley House 

This term the specialist leaders have worked hard to spread their respective subjects. I asked the different captains the same question: ‘What do you want the school to learn about your own subject?’  

French Fun with Nathan and Hao  

Nathan and Hao both share the same goals for the future of French in Buckley House. They agreed that French culture in school is a fun elective and that they need to focus on spreading French language across school. That is the French report for this term. 

Amazing Art with Sophie and Greta  

Sophie and Greta both have the same goal for the future of art in the school. They both know that art is the best specialist subject. (From their point of view) Greta said “let your creativity be free”, meaning art is the best way to express yourself. That is the art report for this term. 

Sport Saga with Daniel and Lucy  

Daniel and Lucy have different beliefs for the future of P.E in the school. Daniel’s perspective of sport is to get fitter and to learn to be collaborative. As a result, Lucy believes that sport is made for people to learn to be an Ivanhoe learner, meaning to be courageous and kind. That is the sport report for this term. 

Book Bonkers with Henry and Pip 

Henry and Pip both have the same goal for the future of library in the school. They both agreed that library is used to express yourself though reading, and that you learn how to read, and you lean educational subjects like History and Geography. That is the library report for this term. 

Scientific supervision with Georgia and Elke 

Georgia and Elke both have the same goal for the future of STEM in the school. They agreed that STEM is made to learn to be a pineapple because, you are prickly on the outside but soft and sweet on the inside. They also think that STEM is a fun experience to learn and make friends. Georgia and Elke are working hard on STEM week which is coming this term. That is the STEM report for this term. 

Musical mayhem with Aaron and Sammy 

Aaron and Sammy have the different beliefs for the future of Music in the school. Sammy believes that music is the best because you can learn any instrument and express yourself. Though Aaron believes that music can make you a better Ivanhoe citizen by improving your mental health and listening skills. Sammy and Aaron have been working hard on the production ‘Madagascar’ which is coming out late in Term 3! 

Jason, Year 6, Buckley House 

Year 5 camp is always a fun and amazing experience. It challenges the determination and confidence of all the students. The Year 5's go to Aireys inlet. Most of the activities are on site so they rarely leave the camp. Some amazing activities are, surfing, flying fox, giant swing, and canoeing. Mr McClean, one of the Year 5 teachers, said he loved spending time out in the bay. It was so sunny and undeniably awesome. He also said lots of the students were resilient and did everything to the best of their ability. Overall, every part of this camp is awesome.

Eliza, Year 6, Buckley House

At the Madagascar rehearsals, the four main characters Marty, Alex, Gloria and Melman all go to rehearsals on a Tuesday after school for two hours to perfect all of their songs and dances. Miss Shannon the music teacher and director of the musical at Buckley House works alongside the cast to help them. It is a great experience and lots of fun for everyone involved to learn new things about each other and learning new skills.

Livia, Year 6, Buckley House

In the Year Four classroom, they have been learning many new things! One thing they are learning currently is writing! Writing for them consists of learning how to write in cursive, ready to get there pen license! Another exciting thing they are learning is inquiry. In inquiry they are making a painted wooden circle of something that means a lot to them! 

Now I will hear a perspective from a year 4. 

'I think cursive is the most important skill to have because you can use it in the future

Stefan, Year 6, Buckley House

The Year 6 students were fortunate enough to go to Canberra for camp. They spent lots of time gaining knowledge about Australia's democratic system and how decisions are made in our country's capital. The most prestigious places they visited were; Parliament House, Government House, Old Parliament House, and The War Memorial. At these places they learnt the history of democracy, how laws are made and how people power works in Australia.

Livia's favourite thing was the love boat because she was able to bond with teachers and friends and Eli's was the cabin because he got to play with his friends. A challenge Livia faced was sleep because she could not function properly without it and Eli was challenged by the drop slide. Eli learnt that he could get upset if he does not get enough sleep and Livia shockingly found out that she is deathly scared of heights. Livia learnt that decisions are meant to be democratic towards everybody and Eli learnt that the Australian Government does not treat all Indigenous peoples fairly. Eli understands now that as an Australian citizen, he can't do much on his own but as a community we are powerful and Livia sees her role as an Australian citizen differently because now she thinks she needs to be informed more about what votes are about. Eli and Livia both learnt they have the rights and responsibilities to vote when they are older. Finally, some questions Eli and Livia have are - What is the point of having less opposition representatives in the House of Representatives because they cannot win? Another question was why cannot kids vote and voice their opinions?
