Cadets 

Chaize, Year 11, Ridgeway Campus

Recently in the Cadet program, those in the CUO course were challenged with an in-school interview where we were told to sell ourselves to the Cadet staff; to outline why we deserve to be promoted into a certain role. Having been the first person in line to have my interview, I was slightly nervous, wondering which way the interview would go long before I stepped foot into the room. Looking back on it now though, it was a huge opportunity that I was given, to be able to have a genuine interview with people I knew, but also to experience the pressure of an individual with something to gain. After all, it’s only for the things that matter which make you nervous. This interview has given me insight into what’s necessary to meet your ambitions, and experience to hopefully make something greater of myself in and out of high school.

Being involved in cadets has given me opportunities that I wouldn't have experienced otherwise. It has helped me build my confidence, strengthen my leadership skills, and step outside my comfort zone. One experience that really stood out was completing an interview to be selected for the Promotions Course to become a CUO. Preparing for the interview and speaking about my experiences improved my communication and interview skills, while also teaching me how to present myself professionally and think under pressure. It gave me a better understanding of my own strengths and showed me how much I had developed through cadets. 

Overall, cadets has been a valuable experience that has helped me grow both personally and professionally. I've met great people, developed practical skills, and become more confident when working with and leading others. Being involved has also strengthened my sense of school spirit, as I have been able to represent my school and contribute to the cadet community in a meaningful way. I would encourage others to consider joining cadets because it provides opportunities to challenge yourself, build lifelong skills, and be part of a supportive and rewarding environment.
