Grade 5 News

Welcome Back to Term 2!
We’ve had a fantastic start to the term and have been very impressed with how quickly our students have settled back into their classroom routines.
In Literacy, we have begun reading Black Cockatoo by Carl Merrison. This engaging novel follows a young Aboriginal girl, Mia, who rescues an injured black cockatoo from her brother. As part of our learning, students will be completing a character study of Mia, exploring her motivations and developing an understanding of why she behaves in certain ways. Next week, we will begin Dirrarn, which continues the story introduced in Black Cockatoo.
In Mathematics, students have recently completed their unit on area and perimeter, where they developed their understanding of how to calculate these measurements for both regular and irregular polygons. We are now moving into our next unit on fractions, focusing on ordering fractions and accurately placing them on a number line.
A permission form for interschool sports will be sent home shortly. This program will run throughout the term and provides students with the opportunity to compete against local schools while developing sportsmanship and positive teamwork skills. There has been a lot of excitement and anticipation about this in our area.
