Grade 3 News

Welcome back to Term 2!

We hope you and your family had a wonderful Easter and were able to enjoy some special time together. It has been wonderful to hear about all the wonderful places students have visited.

Over the next few weeks, we will be reading All About Yirra and Her Deadly Dog, Demon with the children. This engaging story celebrates friendship, courage, and Aboriginal culture through the adventures of Yirra and her loyal (and very misunderstood!) dog, Demon. We’re looking forward to exploring the themes and enjoying the rich storytelling together.

In writing, we have been looking at the conjunctions- because/but/so

Yirra loves her dog Demon because he is loyal and always stays close to her.

Many people think Demon is scary, but Yirra knows he is gentle and kind.

Demon barks loudly to protect Yirra, so he helps keep her safe.

Over the coming weeks, students will be learning about fractions in Mathematics. We will be exploring how fractions represent equal parts of a whole, such as halves, thirds, quarters, and eighths. Students will learn to identify, name, and model fractions using pictures, objects, and number lines.

They will also practise recognising fractions in everyday contexts, such as sharing food, and dividing groups of objects equally. A strong focus will be placed on understanding that all parts must be equal and that fractions help us describe how things are shared fairly.

Families can support learning at home by talking about fractions during daily activities, such as cooking, cutting fruit, or sharing snacks.

In Religion, our learning focus is on grief and loss, and how people find comfort, hope, and connection through Jesus’ teachings. Students will explore that experiencing sadness or loss is a natural part of life and learn how Jesus showed compassion, kindness, and care for others during difficult times. Through age‑appropriate stories, discussions, and reflection, students will be encouraged to express feelings respectfully, show empathy for others, and understand how faith can provide support and strength when facing challenges.

A huge shout-out to all the students receiving a 50 night reading award- keep up the great work!

Parents, please double check that your child is reading, filling in the correct dates, reading nights and that it is signed.

Have a great week!
