Spotlight on Learning

Year ONE - Jerusalem Community

Dear Families,

We have offically hit the half way mark through the term ! It has been wonderful to see our students showing growth in their ability to share their ideas and thinking.

Next week on Monday the 25th of May we have our Multicultural/ Pentecost celebration. Students are encouraged to wear cultural dress. We are looking forward to seeing students celebrate and talk about their culture.

Last week, an email was sent out about the Preimer's Reading Challenge. This is an optional challenge but we encourage all to participate. If you are finding it difficult to locate texts the local libraries have a large range of books you can borrow. There is also an online library called borrowbox which is free to access allowing you to borrow e-books.

There are other resources as well, please investigate online.

Have a great weekend.

What you can do at home

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.

• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.

• Re-reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.

• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “How many altogether?” or “How do you know?”

• A curious question to ask this week could be: What is something you learned that made you laugh?

Important Reminders

Pentecost and Multicultural Day

As we celebrate Pentecost and Multicultural Day on Monday 25 May 2026, we invite students to wear traditional cultural clothing or colours, flags, or symbols that represent their heritage.

A whole school multicultural parade will take place on the basketball courts from 9:05am–9:30am. We look forward to celebrating the rich diversity within our school community together.
