Spotlight on Learning
Foundation - Galilee Community
Dear Families,
Our Foundation students are really shining this term! We are so proud of the growth we are seeing each day, both in the classroom and out in the playground. Students are working hard to make safe and positive choices, show kindness and respect to others, and take pride in their learning.
It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they become more independent learners and caring classmates. We love celebrating the exciting progress they are making and look forward to seeing them continue to learn, grow and thrive throughout the term.
Important reminder:
Monday 25th May is Multicultural Day. Students are encouraged to wear traditional clothing that represents their family’s cultural heritage, or clothing that includes the colours, flags or emblems of their family’s country or culture.

Religious Education:
Next week in Religious Education, students will be learning about God’s wonderful creation and how we can care for the world and the people around us. Through stories, discussions and hands-on learning activities, students will explore how God created people, plants and animals, and how God cares for everyone.
Students will also learn about healthy foods that help our bodies grow strong and ways we can look after creation by caring for the environment, animals and each other. We will be encouraging students to think about simple everyday actions that show kindness, responsibility and care for God’s world.

English:
Next week we will be continuing our reading of 'What’s Cooking in 10 Garden Street?' by Felicita Sala. This beautifully illustrated story takes us through an apartment building, where each family is busy preparing a different meal from around the world. From dumplings to pasta, every kitchen is filled with delicious smells and special traditions. The story celebrates culture, family, and the joy of sharing food with others.
During explicit phonics instructions, we will focus on the /j/ and /u/ sounds.
We introduce sounds based on the Little Learners Love Literacy book 'Milo's Birthday Surprise'.

Mathematics:
Next week in Mathematics, students will be learning to partition numbers to 10 into three parts and continue developing their subitising skills by recognising numbers and parts within numbers to 5 and 10. Through hands-on games and number activities, students will practise quickly identifying small quantities and exploring different ways numbers can be made.

Integrated Curriculum:
Next week in Integrated, students will be exploring our amazing world! We will be learning that Earth is made up of both land and sea, and that the land is divided into 7 large pieces called continents.
Students will take part in fun hands-on activities, songs, discussions and map explorations to help them learn more about our world and where we live. We will be practising using new vocabulary such as Earth, land, sea and continents, while building our understanding of the world around us.

Auslan:
Next week in Auslan, students will be consolidating their learning by reviewing the unit 3 signs that we have previously learnt.
Social & Emotional Learning:
Next week in SEL, students will be learning about different feelings such as being worried, sad, nervous or stressed, and ways to help calm their bodies and minds when problems happen. Through discussions, stories and calming activities, students will practise naming their feelings, using coping strategies and asking for help when needed.
