RAAF Excursion

Students Explore Careers at RAAF Base East Sale
On Wednesday 27 May, a group of Maffra Secondary College students had the exciting opportunity to visit RAAF Base East Sale as part of a careers exploration day coordinated by the Gippsland East Local Learning and Employment Network (GELLEN). The visit provided students with a unique insight into the diverse range of careers available within the Australian Defence Force and the aviation industry.
Following a security induction and welcome session, students rotated through a series of interactive experiences across the base. These included visits to the Pilot Training School, the School of Air Traffic Control, the Air Mission Training School, and 305 Squadron. Students also had the opportunity to explore the facilities at the base gym and learn about the many pathways available to personnel serving in the Royal Australian Air Force.
Throughout the day, students spoke with Defence personnel, observed specialised training environments, and gained first hand knowledge of the skills, qualifications, and personal attributes required for a range of careers. The experience highlighted the importance of teamwork, leadership, communication, and lifelong learning in both Defence and civilian occupations.
The visit concluded with a presentation and Q &A session, allowing students to reflect on their experiences and consider future career opportunities.
Our students represented Maffra Secondary College exceptionally well, demonstrating respectful behaviour, curiosity, and engagement throughout the day. We thank the staff at RAAF Base East Sale and Gippsland East LLEN for providing such a valuable and inspiring learning experience.
Experiences such as these help students make informed decisions about their future pathways and showcase the exciting opportunities available right here in Gippsland.
