Senior School News

It has been a busy and rewarding term for our Senior School students, with a range of excursions, programs, and activities providing valuable learning experiences and opportunities to explore future pathways.

Our Year 11 students recently visited Monash University, where they toured the campus and gained an insight into university life. Students participated in tutorial-style sessions, giving them a taste of what learning at university is like, and received information about courses, support services, and student life. The visit encouraged students to begin thinking about their future study options and career goals.

A highlight of the term for year 12 students was a full-day incursion with Helen Billett, who worked with students on developing confidence, resilience, and strategies for success in their VCE English course. Through engaging activities and discussions, students were encouraged to reflect on their strengths, set goals, and build positive habits that will support them both at school and beyond.

Year 10 students attended a TAFE Taster Day in Sale, visiting local campuses to learn more about vocational education opportunities. Students explored courses they are interested in studying next year and spoke with staff about pathway options. The experience provided valuable information to help students make informed decisions about their future studies.

Year 12 Theatre Studies students showcased their performance and design skills with their rendition of an excerpt of David Williamson's The Removalists. The performance was a challenging one for the class, exploring police brutality in 1970s Australia. During the production process students had both to come to terms with the Australia of the time, its language and the cultural differences that seem like now to be a distant (but not forgotten memory). Year 12 choose to embed elements of Epic theatre to contrast with the realist setting of the original play and used the opportunity to draw attention to parallels between 1970s Australia and today. Congratulations Year 12 on creating an engaging performance which was well reviewed by the audiences which had the privilege to see it!

Year 12 students also participated in the Party Program, which focuses on promoting safe decision-making, resilience, and personal responsibility. The program encourages students to consider the challenges they may face as they approach the end of their secondary schooling and provides practical strategies to help them navigate social situations safely.

Another highlight this term was the RAAF Base excursion, where students gained an insight into careers within the Australian Defence Force. They learned about the range of opportunities available, explored advanced technology and equipment, and heard firsthand about life and training within the Air Force.

Our Vocational Major (VM) students recently attended their annual camp. Through a variety of activities, students developed teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills while building stronger connections with their peers. The camp was a valuable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

As we approach the end of the semester, students are looking forward to the upcoming Senior School Prom on Thursday, 19 June. The event will bring together Year 11 and Year 12 students for an evening of celebration, friendship, and fun, providing a wonderful opportunity to create lasting memories with their peers.

We congratulate all Senior School students for their enthusiasm and involvement throughout the term and look forward to the exciting opportunities still to come.
