Senior Boys Soccer

On Friday Week 5 of Term 2, the Maffra Secondary Senior Boys Soccer Team set out under blue skies and fair weather to take on the best of the Wellington Region. A motley crew of footy players, representative soccer players and keen amateurs, the first half of their first match was an enthusiastic and interesting display of how to quickly adapt AFL skills to soccer and pick up some of the more obscure rules. Unfortunately, the boys went down 4-0 to a Kurnai College team filled with some young talent.

They rallied for the second match of the day, showing a lot more defensive composure in the first half, keeping the score to 1-0. However, the continued pressure from Sale College won out in the second half, leading to a 4-0 defeat. Lavalla would also have their turn to heap pressure on the defence, taking out the win in the third match, 5-0.

The boys went into the afternoon aiming to do their best and enjoy the last match of the day against Catholic College. Positional changes were made, and a new goalkeeper was tested. After some fantastic offensive play from the team, Jhon Joromat was able to take some brilliant scoring opportunities- and the boys held Catholic College to a 2-2 draw!

The team may not be progressing to the next round, but they finished in high spirits with an excellent level of sportsmanship and composure shown throughout the day. Well done on representing Maffra Secondary College!
