Science

There's been lots of learning happening in the Science room!

In Prep- Two, we have been looking at events that occur on Earth and in the sky, for example, the appearance of the moon and stars at night, the weather and the seasons. We have been linking changes in the daily weather to the way we modify our behaviour and dress for different conditions. We have been investigating how changes in the weather might affect animals such as pets, animals that hibernate, or migratory animals. We have also been identifying Earth’s resources including water and soil and describing how they are used at home and school and ways we can save water.

In Grades 3-4, we have been exploring the Earth’s rotation on its axis causes regular changes, including night and day. Modelling the relative sizes and movement of the Sun, Earth and Moon and describing timescales for the rotation of the Earth. Students have also completed their planet project and presented these on project paper.

In 5-6, we have been exploring Earth as part of a system of planets orbiting around a star (the Sun). Identifying the planets of the solar system and comparing how long they take to orbit the sun. Modelling the relative size of and distance between Earth, other planets in the solar system and the sun. Students have completed their projects and presented these on project paper.
