From the Principal

It has been another busy term full of events that have occurred alongside the day-to-day teaching and learning.

These included the major events such as the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, SoNic Fest, the Creative Arts Exhibition, Dance Night, Inter-House and ACC Athletics, Tournament of the Minds, Kimberley Immersion, Kairos and the Year 11 Dinner Dance.

I wish to acknowledge some exceptional achievements this term.

Our staff and students have safely returned from Kununurra after a full week of service and cultural immersion. I know our students did the College proud. Thank you to Ms Margaret Kyd, Ms Melda Lim, Miss Kelsey Zampino, Mr Brendan Lewis and Mrs Kerrie Cogger (Science Teacher from St Joseph’s) for accompanying our students. The program has earned a reputation in the many places they serve from St Joseph’s Primary School to the Community Kitchen. I loved seeing the photos of the delivery of the donated items from our College, St Joseph’s and St Pius Primary School, Manning.

Our Specialised Football Program achieved its greatest success to date winning the SSWA Intermediate Boys Football Shield when they showed the same fight back spirit as the Fremantle Dockers when they were down 0-1 at half time to win 3-1 against St James. The boys were a credit to their families and the College, playing with great spirit and sportsmanship. Mr Jacob Aquino and Coach Rama Kabwe have provided outstanding guidance to this team of young men who represented the College with pride. A very significant and special victory for the program. Many of these boys will be representing our College when they compete in the Singa Cup in Singapore in early November.

There was an amazing turn out at the Creative Arts Exhibition on Tuesday 15 September and I thank parishioners and former parents Gino and Laura Giovanazzo who had the difficult job as guest judges. We were delighted that Mrs Julie Hornby, Deputy Executive Director of CEWA and Mr Ron Sao MLA, Member for Cannington were able to join us. The work from so many different mediums showcased the talents of our students. Congratulations to all students who had work displayed and to those who were recognised at our College Assembly on Wednesday.

The process of welcoming our 2027 Year 7 students (Class of 2032) to the College has begun! Following a well-attended Information Evening on Thursday 10 September, students sat a Placement Test the following week. We look forward to seeing our new students again when they attend Orientation Day on Thursday 3 December.

We have also begun farewelling the Class of 2026 and have completed the selection process for our 2027 Student Leaders, who are announced later in this newsletter. I would like to extend my best wishes to our Year 12 students who are preparing for their upcoming exams during the holidays. Graduation events occur in the first 2 weeks of next term.

We farewell and thank Ms Kristin Chan our College Counsellor, as she commences parental leave to prepare for the birth of her first child. Ms Chan will be missed and we look forward to her return in 2028. I am delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Christine Bryant who will fulfil this important role at the College from Term 4.

Best wishes to Miss Carrol Abel and Ms Karen Cassidy as they embark on a few weeks of well deserved Long Service Leave at the start of Term 4.

I thank all the staff and students for the energy and commitment shown over the term, especially during periods of illness over the cold months.

I take this opportunity to invite all members of our community to a Mass of Remembrance for the souls of our departed students and staff from St Norbert College, on Saturday 7 November 2026 at 7:45am at St Joseph’s Priory Church.

ALL ARE WELCOME to what will become an annual event each November. We will remember especially ex-students who have passed away and are part of our Garden of Remembrance near the College entry. Please join us for light refreshments after mass.

A reminder that Presentation Night this year will be an online production that will go live on Sunday 15 November at 7pm. This is a great way for families to view the entertainment and awards from their lounge rooms anywhere in the world! Mark your calendars!

Finally, I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable holiday break. I truly hope that the holidays will commence with a purple celebration when the Dockers win their first premiership, hopefully without the need for Wharfie Time! There is a strong possibility that the school colours will change to purple if this happens.

Stay tuned.

God bless
