Careers & VET

Well, it might be the end of Term 3, but there is still a lot going on related to Career Development.

Year 12 Students

It has been a pleasure to meet with each of the Year 12 students over the past six weeks to discuss their plans for beyond school. Just a couple of important reminders:

University Applications

These should be completed via the www.tisc.edu.au website by the 30 September 2026. Some course applications close on this date, so it is safest to ensure that your application is submitted at this time so that you do not miss out.

TAFE Applications

You can submit your applications online via the link below:

Full-Time TAFE is a great opportunity for many students as the government has heavily subsidized a wide range of course fees. Applications close on the 30 October 2026.

Year 10 and 11 TAFE (Full-Time 2027)

Any Year 10 or 11 student that would like to apply for Full-TIme TAFE study instead of completing Year 11 and 12, should submit their application by the 30 October 2026.

Please visit the Careers Centre if you would like to discuss options or if you would like help with your application.

On behalf of the Careers and WorkPrep offices, we would like to wish all students a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing you all again in Term 4.

Certificate IV Business Students Showcase Entrepreneurial Innovation at Business Expo

The St Norbert College Certificate IV Business students recently had the opportunity to present their innovative business concepts at the annual Business Expo, delivered in partnership with Austraining. The event provided students with a real-world platform to pitch their ideas, demonstrate their business knowledge, and showcase the entrepreneurial skills they have developed throughout the course. Students impressed the audience and the judges with a range of creative and socially conscious business ventures:

‘Ghost Stitch’, a business aimed at tackling the growing issue of fast fashion through a customised clothing business model, encouraging consumers to invest in personalised, high-quality donated garments that promote sustainability and individuality.

‘Skills Bridge’ presented a student-focused app designed to help young people navigate future pathway and employment opportunities. The platform would connect students with part-time jobs, apprenticeships, traineeships and career resources while developing the employability skills needed for success in the workforce.

‘The Grow In Place’ introduced an innovative AI-powered vegetation box that enables users to grow their own plants, herbs and produce at home. Controlled through automated lighting, watering and nutrient systems, the concept combines technology and sustainability to support healthier and more accessible home gardening.

‘Spark’ showcased an online hiring platform for activity and event equipment. By encouraging the reuse and sharing of resources rather than purchasing new items, the business promotes sustainability while providing a practical service for the community.

The quality of the business pitches was outstanding, making the judging process extremely competitive. Congratulations to the following award recipients:

🏆 Most Original Business Idea: Spark

🏆 Most Viable Business Idea: The Grow In Place

🏆 Outstanding Presentation Skills: Cassie and Jakob

These awards recognised not only innovative thinking but also the professionalism, communication skills and confidence demonstrated throughout the pitching process.

A special thank you to Austraining for their continued partnership and support in providing students with authentic industry experiences that bridge the gap between education and the world of business.

Congratulations to all the St Norbert College Certificate IV Business students. The creativity, innovation and enthusiasm were on full display, and they clearly demonstrated the skills to become entrepreneurs of the future!

Year 10 Students Participate in the $20 Boss Business Challenge

This term, our Year 10 Business Management and Enterprise students have participated in the $20 Boss Enterprise Project, putting their entrepreneurial thinking and creativity to the test. Working collaboratively in teams, students were challenged to transform a small amount of start-up capital into a successful business venture by designing, developing and operating their own business stalls at the College.

Throughout the project, students experienced the different stages involved in establishing and running a small business. They brainstormed and refined business ideas, identified their target customer, carried out market research, sourced materials, calculated costs and prices, managed their budgets and developed marketing strategies.

The project provided students with an opportunity to put classroom learning into practice while developing important skills in problem-solving, financial management, communication, collaboration, creativity and decision-making. Students also discovered that running a business requires flexibility, persistence and the ability to respond to challenges as they arise.

The highlight of the project was the Business Stall Showcase, where students proudly brought their ideas to life and sold their products to the College community. The event was a wonderful celebration of student creativity, initiative and hard work, with a fantastic range of stalls and enthusiastic teams demonstrating their entrepreneurial spirit.

Congratulations to all of our Year 10 students for their commitment to the $20 Boss Business Project and embracing the opportunity to experience what it takes to turn an idea into a successful entrepreneurial venture!
