Numeracy Week 2026
Numeracy week 2026 saw Maths staff and students having fun getting involved in many Numeracy challenges throughout the week. Students also enjoyed being challenged in class, learning some problem-solving skills and trying to solve some out of the box maths problems.
Here’s a snapshot at some of the challenges/competitions that were on during the week:
Numero
A fun card game full of strategy was run over recess and lunch. Congratulations to Isabel F and Myra C (both Year 11), who worked as a combined team, to win.
Guess the correct number of Jellybeans
Throughout the week students were able to take a guess at how many lollies were in the jar. Congratulations to Felix S (Yr 12) who correctly guessed the correct number which was 431 lollies. Special mention must go to Nicholas N (Yr 7) and Sophie L (Yr 7) for being one off. Nicholas was in fact the very first student to have a guess.
Dots & Boxes
Many students gathered to play dots and boxes during recess. They enjoyed the competition and the winning students were sweetly surprised to earn a Donut for their effort.
Homeroom Comp
During Numeracy Week, homerooms went head-to-head in a fun and fast-paced Kahoot challenge to test their maths skills. P3, led by Mr Roberts, came out on top taking home the win with sharp thinking and quick reflexes. Congratulations to P3!
Lock Box comp
Akash C, Steve S & Shanuk F used their problem-solving skills to complete several maths problems. The answers were used to be able to unlock the code on a lock box. And their reward, they were lucky to find a box of Favourites hiding in there.
Times tables Championship
In class, Year 7 students were given just three minutes to work through up to 144 times tables questions. Some of the students were able to correctly complete all the questions. The top two students from each class were then sent to the finals where students competed against each other using a times tables Kahoot. Thank you to the enthusiastic group of cheerleaders who came to watch the championship.
After a hard-fought battle, congratulations to:
1st Jessica C (class 3)
2nd Anuki A (class 2)
3rd Maybelle T (class 7)
Pi Precision Challenge
Some students have amazing memories. They are the winners of the Pi Precision Challenge, where they had to correctly list as many decimal places of Pi as possible, eg, 3.14159265…
What an amazing effort by the following Pi-oneers:
1st Poleen I T6 (125 digits)
2nd Ryan S M6 (100 digits)
3rd Anushka K P7 (72 digits)
Pie Eating comp
Our pie eating competition is always an exciting event in Numeracy week. Many staff and students came to watch and cheer for the competitors as they tried to eat a pie as fast as they could. Congratulations to our winner Amiel P. Well done to second place Tristan M and third place Mr Roberts.
Thank you to the Maths department for running the many Numeracy week events. Well done to everyone who took part in making the week such a great celebration of maths!
