News from the Library

Welcome back to Term 3 in the Library. After a term off on long service leave it is great to be back in the Library and greeting the smiling faces of our students again. My thanks to Ms Cao for stepping into my shoes last term and doing such a great job. Thanks also to Ms Daniels and the Student Library Leaders, who are the backbone of our Library.

CBCA Shadow Judging

Book Week is only 3 weeks away, and our Shadow Judges have been busy finalising their choices for each category. During term 1 and 2 our student judges read the 6 finalist books in the category of their choice, then evaluated them using the same criteria as the official CBCA judges. It has given the students an insight into assessing writing and the relevance of illustrations to the text, building their critical thinking skills. We are looking forward to the CBCA book winner announcements, and to see if other students around Australia agreed with our decisions.

Science Books

Science Week is celebrated in a fortnight, with the theme this year of “Decoding the Universe – Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language.” The Library has recently received a wonderful science series called Baby University. It breaks down complex science and math ideas using simple explanations and colourful illustrations, with topics such as quantum entanglement, neural networks, general relativity, and statistical physics. All 17 books in the series are currently on display in the Library, and students are loving picking up these books with complex sounding titles and discovering that they can understand the concepts.

Student Book Club present: BookSwap‘25

As part of this year’s Book Week, the Book Club has decided to host a Book Swap. The idea is simple - bring a book to swap to the Library any day starting from Monday 4 August, and you will receive a ticket to the Book Week Party and Book Swap. Bring a book that is in reasonable condition and that other students will enjoy reading. On the final day of Book Week, participating students can come to the Library to browse what other students have read, get suggestions for new reads, and add to their TBR pile.

Book Week is Mon 18 - Fri 22 August 2025.
