Curriculum Night

Curriculum & Pathways Information Evening

Thank you to the parents and students who attended this year's event on Tuesday. This is an important evening for students and families to gather information and learn about pathways and subject offerings at the College and beyond. The event is a pre-cursor to the course counselling day next week on Wed 6 August.

The feedback from all involved was that the conversations were overwhelmingly positive and student engagement in their future choices was high. We had a pleasing turnout, particularly from the year 8 students keen to understand the vast number of subject offerings available to them. There were many of tertiary pathways providers in the pathway’s hub from Monash and Deakin university to TAFE and Traineeship providers and they were very pleased with the patronage.

Federal government research and surveys of thousands of young people has identified the key barriers and enablers to student pathways and career decisions. The biggest influences on career and pathways decision (both positive and negative) are:

Interestingly, the research also shows that parents still have the biggest influence on students’ future choices of subjects, careers and pathways. So, the message to parents is to inform yourself about the latest information and research on courses, future employment, labour markets and future job skills. This way you can support your children positively to make these often difficult decisions.

Success!

It was fantastic to see so many students from Years 9 to 12 and their families at our Curriculum & Pathways Information Evening this week.  We commend students on making the most of the opportunity to actively engage with staff, tertiary providers, and Headstart representatives. The energy throughout the evening was incredibly positive, with students asking thoughtful questions and exploring a wide range of post-school options and senior school pathways.

The event offered valuable opportunities for students to consider subject selections, explore career directions, and connect directly with universities, TAFEs, and industry partners. We were especially pleased to see students taking initiative in planning their futures and seeking guidance on how their current choices can support their long-term goals.

Since the event, we’ve continued to meet with many students as they navigate their individual pathways and make important decisions for 2026 and beyond. These one-on-one conversations are a vital part of the support we offer, and we encourage students to reach out if they would like further guidance.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, and to all the staff and guest organisations who helped make the night so informative and welcoming. Events like these play a vital role in supporting our students’ future success, and it was wonderful to see such strong engagement from our school community.

We look forward to continuing these important conversations throughout the term!

Subject Selection Dates

During weeks 3 to 5, our students across Years 8 to 11 will be working with a teacher to select their program for 2026.  Each year level will follow a slightly different process, as outlined briefly below.

Years 8, 9 & 10 – Wednesday 6th August

All Year 8, 9 and 10 classes will be cancelled for the day.  Students are required to book and attend a 15-minute course subject selection interview, which will be held in the Senior Centre.  Students in Year 10 are required to attend with a parent/carer.

Year 11 – Wed13th & Wed 20th August

Year 11 students will be completing their subject selection in their Explore classes throughout weeks 4 & 5.  Their Explore teacher will conference with them to discuss their options for Year 12 in 2026, and any students who require extra support will be referred to the career practitioners.

We encourage all students to reflect carefully, speak with their teachers, and ask questions. Subject selection is not just about next year — it’s a step toward life beyond school.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Careers and Pathways team.
