Learning in Year 4

Welcome back to Term 4! Can you believe this is our final term together? We have a busy and exciting term ahead, filled with lots of learning and engaging activities.
This term, our Year 4 students will take on the responsibility of managing the bins, with each student assigned a designated area to look after alongside a peer. Students will also begin participating in Year 4 and 5 Sport in preparation for next year. We are looking forward to seeing the students continue to grow, challenge themselves and make the most of their final term in Year 4!
Literacy
In Literacy, we will begin the term with our Poetry unit, where students will immerse themselves in the world of poetry. We will explore different types of poems, investigate the features and structures that make each one unique, and enjoy creating our own! Students will have the opportunity to write a range of poems, including acrostic, diamante, cinquain and haiku poems, just to name a few.
Maths
In Maths, we will begin by exploring unknown and missing numbers in addition and subtraction equations. We will then move on to multiplication before finishing the term with our Money unit, where students will develop their understanding of money and its use in everyday situations.
Integrated Studies
Our Integrated Studies topic this term is First Contact, First Peoples. Students will explore what life was like for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples before 1788, why the British came to Australia, and how the arrival of the First Fleet changed life for everyone.
Through examining different perspectives, stories and experiences, students will consider the importance of understanding and acknowledging the different sides of Australia's history. We will conclude the unit with a showcase project, where students will share their learning with others.
