Learning in Year 2

English 

In Writing, we have been busy exploring the wonderful world of poetry! We started with acrostic poems, celebrating all the wonderful things about ourselves. We then moved on to haiku, where students became syllable champions as they carefully counted and arranged words to create their poems. We finished our unit with colour poems, using our five senses to describe different colours and create vivid pictures for our readers. It has been wonderful to see students expressing their creativity and enjoying the magic of poetry! 

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have been exploring patterns, identifying how they increase or change and using this knowledge to continue and create our own patterns. We have also been learning about data, collecting information and representing it in graphs. Students have been developing their skills in reading graphs and making statements about what the data shows. It has been wonderful to see students sharing their ideas and explaining what they notice! 

Integrated

In Integrated Studies, we have enjoyed exploring the journey of different foods from the farm to the shops and learning about the processes involved along the way. Students chose a food to investigate and became experts on how it is produced and makes its way to our supermarkets. We have also had lots of fun with our cooking rotations, where students made their own butter, created delicious fruit kebabs and tasted a variety of different fruits and vegetables. It has been wonderful to see students enjoying these hands-on experiences and developing a greater understanding of where our food comes from. 

Swimming Program

The students have done a fantastic job during swimming and have had so much fun developing and improving their swimming skills. They have worked hard, shown persistence and grown in confidence throughout the program. It has been wonderful to see their progress and enthusiasm in the pool! 

Camp in Afternoon

We had a wonderful time staying back after school with the Year 2s for our special evening together! Students enjoyed playing games, sharing afternoon tea and pizza, and then getting cosy in their pyjamas while relaxing and watching a movie. It was a lovely evening filled with lots of fun, laughter and excitement. We hope this experience has given the students a little taste of what to look forward to when they get to go on camp in the coming years!
