Learning in Year 3

Year 3 Camp – What an Adventure!

Our Year 3 camp was certainly a highlight of the year! Students and staff had an absolutely fantastic time at ADANAC, making memories that we hope will stay with them for many years to come.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather, enjoying cool, crisp mornings followed by beautiful sunny afternoons — perfect conditions for getting outside and making the most of everything camp had to offer.

The ADANAC facilities were excellent, with comfortable rooms, fantastic outdoor spaces and, of course, plenty of delicious food to keep everyone fuelled for the busy days!

Students had the opportunity to try a huge range of activities, including Gaga Pit games, damper and campfire cooking, the low ropes course, disc golf, canoeing and, of course, the much-anticipated flying fox! There was plenty of encouragement, laughter and teamwork along the way as students challenged themselves and supported one another.

And the fun didn't stop when the sun went down! From dining room dancing and roasting marshmallows to a movie night, there was never a dull moment. By the time we arrived home, students and adults alike were certainly exhausted — but we came home with tired bodies, big smiles and some very special memories.

We are incredibly proud of every single Year 3 student for the way they embraced camp, challenged themselves, supported their friends and represented our school.

A huge THANK YOU to all of the staff who attended camp and helped make it such a wonderful experience for our students. We would also like to extend a very special thank you to our amazing parent helpers. We truly appreciate the time, energy and support you gave us. We couldn't have done it without you!

Literacy

We are continuing to develop our persuasive writing skills, focusing on persuasive techniques that help writers engage and convince their audience. Students will be experimenting with high-modality words and rhetorical questions as they develop their own persuasive texts.

We are also very excited to begin our new class novel, The One and Only Ivan. Each student has their own copy of the novel to read along with during our shared reading sessions. This will provide wonderful opportunities to develop reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills as we explore the story together.

Maths

Our Maths learning will begin with data collection and graphing. Students will collect real-life data, represent their findings and create graphs to communicate their information clearly. We will then move into measurement, with a particular focus on length. Students will explore measurement through practical, real-life examples and applications, developing their ability to estimate, measure and compare.

Integrated – Antarctica Moves

Before we head into our “Life in the Freezer” learning about Antarctica, we will first investigate different types of forces, including friction, gravity and magnets.

In Week 3, students will enjoy a hands-on science incursion where they can explore these forces in action. Please check Compass for payment information if you have not already made payment.  Later in the term, students will apply their science knowledge when they design and create their own Antarctic dioramas, incorporating one of the forces they have investigated.  Stay tuned for information about an Open Afternoon later in the term, when students will have the opportunity to share their completed creations with families!

End-of-Year Celebration – The Big Goose to celebrate our Feather, Fur and Fin learning from Term 3, we will be heading to The Big Goose in the final week of school!

This will be a wonderful hands-on experience where students can interact with animals up close and celebrate all of the learning, friendships and fun we have shared throughout an incredible Year 3 year. Please check Compass for payment information if you have not already made payment and keep an eye out soon as we we are able to take some parent helpers with us.
