Grade 3 and 4 Camp

Recounts of the Students

2026 Camp Recount (Anna - Grade 4)

On Wednesday morning, I got up early to get ready for school. But today was special because we were going camping! Our campsite was called The Island, on Phillip Island.

I washed my face, brushed my teeth, got changed and packed my pyjamas into my suitcase. I put them in last because I still needed to wear them on my final night at home. I zipped up my suitcase and rode it down the stairs (please don’t try this yourself!). Luckily, I didn’t get hurt! After a quick breakfast, I did my hair, put on my socks, said goodbye to Mum with a hug and then dropped off my youngest little sister.

Next, I headed to the school gym to drop off my suitcase before playing at the playground for a little while. When the music rang, I rushed back to the gym to find my suitcase. We were about to leave school, but first, we had to do the roll call. After that, we hopped onto the bus and headed to a park to eat our packed morning tea. We stayed there for half an hour before hopping back onto the bus and continuing our journey to camp. On the way, the beach views were incredibly beautiful! When we finally arrived, we grabbed our suitcases and headed to our rooms to unpack. We were supposed to have 50 minutes to unpack, but our time was shortened to just 15 minutes! We had to hurry! After settling into our rooms, we started our rotations. Our group went rock climbing for about an hour and a half. After the rotation, we had afternoon tea, enjoyed some free time to play and then had dinner. We had red pasta for dinner.

As the sun began to set, we stepped outside the campsite for our night walk. We walked for a while, looking for interesting natural objects on the ground to collect. Then, we reached the beach and looked up at the sky. This was my favourite part of the night walk because I had never seen so many stars before! After that, we walked back to the campsite and went to bed.

The next day, I woke up 15 minutes before the teachers knocked on our doors. We got dressed and went out for breakfast. There was toast and cereal, but I only ate toast. Straight after breakfast, we started our rotations. Our first activity was archery. My closest shot landed in the blue section! After archery, we went to have our morning tea. Our next activity was the giant swing. Out of all the activities, this was my favourite! First, you get pulled high into the sky. Then, the rope is released, and you free-fall before swinging through the air. It was so exciting!

After that, we went straight to the flying fox. I think it was about 150 metres long! Then, we returned to our cabins to get changed for the beach. I put on my shorts, and off we went!

At the beach, we took part in a sandcastle-building competition. It was fun to see what everyone could create!

For dinner, we had chicken nuggets and chips. Afterwards, we changed into our PJs and headed back to the dining room. Why did we have to return? Because it was time for a movie night! The movie we watched was Alvin and the Chipmunks. It was hilarious! The movie was about a band of talking chipmunks, and we had a great time watching it. After the movie, we went to bed.

On the last day, I woke up and got dressed. I packed my things for the trip back to school, grabbed my backpack and suitcase, and put them outside. Then, we had breakfast and collected our packed lunches to eat on the way home. We hopped onto the bus and began our journey back to school. On the way, we stopped in San Remo to watch the pelicans being fed.

My Awesome First Camp (Alessandra - Grade 3A)

It was finally Wednesday, the day I had waited for so long! The excitement kicked in. My first highlight was the flying fox. It was so satisfying to swing so high. The view was amazing when I went 90 metres high! My other highlight was the Pinnacle, which was like rock climbing. I made it to the top! I could see the statue of a seal and never ever imagined that I could go to the top. A great challenge overcome! Finally, spending time with my friends in the cabin felt like a sleepover! Soaring in the sky, going to the top of the tower and having a bit of laughter with my friends at night were all my highlights.

My Awesome First Camp (Daniel - Grade 3A)

My first trip to Phillip Island camp was extremely enjoyable and some of my favourite highlights were archery and the giant swing. On Day 2 of camp, my activity group went to our first activity, which was archery. I learned how to hold the bow and put the arrow in. Once it was my turn, I was ready. On my third and final try, I hit the red and I was quite pleased with myself, as I had never done archery before. The other highlight at camp was when I tried the giant swing. After learning how it works, soon my turn came. I was both nervous and excited, but once I reached the top, the view was stunning. I could see the ocean on my left and then the rope was dropped and I swung for some time. That was great fun!Camp was filled with fun activities, delicious food and spending time with my friends. I can’t wait to go again!

Camp Highlights (Jeremiah - Grade 3A)

My trip to Phillip Island was awesome and my highlights were the Pedal Racers and the Number Hunt. My favourite was the Pedal Racers because I got the chance to race with my friend. The other highlight, the Number Hunt, was even more fun because it was challenging and it allowed me to constantly try and find the right numbers to match their descriptions. Both my highlights were great fun. Last but not least, spending time with my friends was the best part.

My First School Camp (Milly - Grade 3B)

In Week 2, the Grade 3 and 4 students went to camp at CYC The Island, on Phillip Island. This was the Grade 3 students’ first-ever school camp! The activities we did were the giant swing, flying fox, pedal racers, pinnacle and archery.

I was nervous about doing the giant swing, but it became my favourite activity after I tried it. At first, it felt like I was falling, but then suddenly, I started swinging higher than I had ever swung before! My second favourite activity was the flying fox because it was so much fun. To start, I had to climb up a really high ladder to reach a platform. Then, I had to jump off the very high platform and zoom along the flying fox. I wished I could have done it twice! My third favourite activity was archery. Even though I didn’t do very well, I still loved it. Another activity we did was Pinnacle. It felt like outdoor rock climbing while wearing a big harness. There was also a surprise waiting on the roof! The surprise was a fake seal called Sally!

At camp, we ate some delicious food. We had pizza scrolls, pasta, schnitzels, vegetables and fruit. For dessert, we enjoyed cookies, biscuits, cake, mousse and ice cream with different toppings. Everything was delicious!

Thank you, teachers, for looking after us so well and making our first school camp such a wonderful experience.

My First Camp Highlights (Nicolas - Grade 3A)

I would like to share some of my highlights from my first camp at Phillip Island. I was so excited to go to camp this year. On the way, we stopped at two places for morning tea and lunch. My favourite highlight was the Pedal Racers. My highest speed was 15 km per hour. I also got to race with my friends but I lost most of the races. It was still fun, though. My other highlight was the Giant Swing. It was 15 metres high. It was a bit scary on my first swing.

Grade 3/4 School Camp (Oliver - Grade 4)

Day 1

At the start of school camp, we headed to the buses and set off on our adventure. First, we went to Cranbourne Botanical Gardens. Once we arrived, we followed a path that led us to a little picnic area. We ate our snacks, and as soon as we started walking again, it began to rain! Luckily, the rain stopped during the bus ride to Phillip Island, and we arrived at the Nobbies. At the Nobbies, we ate our lunch. I saw an island near another island, or at least I thought so. Then, we walked along a boardwalk and enjoyed the breathtaking views. There was a little seagull war, but other than that, everything was fine! Finally, we arrived at camp, had an introduction and headed off to our first activities. Our group, Group 4, went to Pinnacle, where we did rock climbing. Moriah set the record on the speed wall! After that, we went to dinner. We had pasta, garlic bread and chips. After dinner, we went to a separate room, where we played two games before heading out on our night walk. We grabbed our torches and set off. We saw bunnies, crossed streets and eventually reached the beach. When we returned to camp, we ate supper and went to bed.

Day 2

We woke up and headed to the dining room for breakfast. After eating, we set off for our second round of activities. First, we did archery, and I managed to get one of my arrows stuck in the metal! Next, we had a go on the giant swing, where we could see the beach. After that, we tried the flying fox. We then went go-karting and had lunch. After lunch, we enjoyed some free time before heading to the beach for a sandcastle-building contest. My group consisted of Kipp, Malike, Janosch, Oaklee and me. We built a prison castle, and somehow, we all won! Unfortunately, nearly all the sandcastles were washed away by the waves. After the contest, we had afternoon tea. Later, we had dinner and watched Alvin and the Chipmunks. It was a fun way to end the day! After the movie, we went to sleep.

Day 3

On the final day, we had breakfast and then took part in a letter hunt. After that, we set off for the beach. We watched the pelicans being fed and then had lunch. Once we had finished eating, we played on the playground until it was time to leave. When we arrived back at school, we unpacked our luggage and waited for our parents to pick us up. My favourite activity was the giant swing because it was both scary and fun! Overall, camp was very, very fun, and I had an amazing time!
