Year 7 Chinese Museum excursion

The Year 7s visited the Chinese Museum last week to immerse themselves in ancient Chinese Culture. The trip to the city celebrated the end of a unit where students learnt all about ancient China’s cleverly designed infrastructure - including the Great Wall of China and the Terracotta Warriors - everyday life and culture, and social structures.
The museum provided an engaging tour of Han Dynasty artefacts and a workshop allowing students to examine technology that predates computers and mobile devices. In addition, the students learnt about the rough journey Chinese migrants made to Australia in search of a better life during the 1850s. For lunch, students visited a nearby eatery, where they had the option to purchase Chinese cuisine.
Students' recount of the excursion:
On Thursday 22 October, all of the Year 7s went into the city to visit the Chinese Museum. While we were visiting the museum we all learnt new things about ancient China, but one new thing I learnt was that the Chinese people who moved to Australia sometimes had to pay a fee if they were trying to land in a particular place that was becoming overpopulated. To get around this, some of the Chinese people would land somewhere else nearby and walk long distances to get there. I quite enjoyed the experience of going to the Chinese museum, and my favourite thing was seeing one of the Terracotta Warriors in real life.
Zeddy (Year 7A)
On Thursday 22 October, my classmates and I went to the Chinese museum in Chinatown. We learnt about terracotta warriors, some inventions from the Han dynasty and traditional Chinese dragons. I learned that red is a sign of happiness in Chinese culture and that gunpowder came from ancient China. One of my favourite parts of the day other than exploring the museum was lunch at the food court. My classmates and I bought lots of delicious food and I even tried some delicious coconut ice cream. How could I forget the One that made the day possible, God! God made the day so fun and amazing and blessed us with great weather and I am so thankful. I am also thankful for my teachers who accompanied us on the trip and made the day fun and safe.
