Year 7 Science

Year 7 science students have been learning about simple machines used in everyday life, including levers, pulleys, wheels, and inclined planes. They investigated how these machines make life easier by changing the direction of a force or multiplying the applied force.
Students then applied this knowledge to design a Rube Goldberg machine. The challenge was to have a marble travel for one metre and drop into a cup without anyone touching the device. Students incorporated a range of mechanisms, including ramps, seesaws, bridges, and pulleys, to achieve the objective. While not all designs were successful, the students attempted complex layouts and learned firsthand about the importance of testing in the engineering design process.
