This term in Inquiry, our Grade 2 students have been learning about communities and the important roles people and places have within them. Throughout the term, students explored what a community is, what makes up a community, and the different roles people have in helping communities’ function. They also investigated services within our community that help keep us safe, healthy, and socially connected.

To support this learning, students participated in a local walking excursion around our community. During the walk, students identified a variety of local services and discussed the important role each one plays in supporting the wellbeing of community members. Students observed how people are connected to places in different ways and reflected on why certain places are important to individuals and the wider community. The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to make meaningful real-world connections to their classroom learning while developing their observation and discussion skills.
