From the Year 2 Classroom

It's hard to believe that we are 7 weeks in with 3 weeks until holiday! The winter weather has been upon us, so please make sure your children are dressing appropriately and have their names clearly labelled on the tags.  There is a number of items in lost property so if you are looking for something, please feel free to come and have a look.

A reminder for children to please leave toys and fidgets at home. We have found that they are becoming a real distraction for other children or they are popping causing mess. We are happy for children to bring in show and tell for special items.

Literacy- In writing the children have begun writing a newspaper report where they had to describe a particular real or fantasy story. They really enjoyed starting these stories and have specifically been trying to add more detail and description. In spelling we have continued learning and reviewing digraphs that make different sounds at the beginning, middle and end of words as well as learning new tricky words each week. We have also learnt about adverbs, verbs and next week we will move to prepositions.

Maths- In Maths we have been learning about informal units of measurement. The children love this topic as they are comparing different objects, measuring different sized lines with different units as well as their own foot. We have looked at estimating versus actual measurements and what tools we would use and how.  Next week the focus will be on capacity and mass, they will be measuring weights of different objects as well as looking at items that are measured in grams.

Religion- The students have been sharing a lot through our Grief and Loss topic. They are learning that it is ok to feel however you feel, to talk to people about how you feel and to notice these changes in our lives. They have discussed lots of emotion, when and how to feel it. What our faces and bodies would look and feel like.  Last week Meegan came in a shared the Godly Play of the mustard seed. The message was the from the smallest of things, big things can grow into beautiful things.
