From the Year 4 Classroom

A big congratulations to the 26 Sacramental students who celebrated their Confirmation and First Eucharist over the weekend. The students did a wonderful job and should feel incredibly proud of themselves. We could certainly see the Holy Spirit shining through on Monday morning as we reflected on and discussed this special occasion together. A special thank you also goes to the other students who supported and encouraged them throughout their Sacramental journey.
Good luck to the students who headed to Divisional Cross country today.
We wish Liliana, Jack C, Levi T, Sonny, Myles, Alice, Lola, Georgia C and Artie O.
Literacy: In Writing, we have begun exploring our new text, The Arrival by Shaun Tan. This fantasy graphic novel uses powerful illustrations to tell the story of an unnamed man who leaves his home country due to an unknown oppressive force. He leaves behind his wife and child as he journeys to a new and unfamiliar land. Students are discussing themes such as migration, belonging, courage and resilience.
Numeracy: This week, we began learning about data and different types of graphs. Students will be analysing and interpreting graphical displays of data and selecting the most appropriate graph to represent different sets of information.
Religion: We have started a new unit called The Circle of Life, where we are exploring loss and how people experience and respond to it in different ways - from small to significant losses. This week, we discussed how love is like an invisible thread that cannot be broken, no matter where our loved ones are. Students drew loved ones on paper hearts and attached string to symbolise these loving connections. We have shared some thoughtful and meaningful discussions together.
We are also learning about the Mercy Values — Respect, Hospitality, Compassion, Service, Courage and Justice. As a whole school, we are focusing on one value each week and exploring practical ways we can live out these values in our daily lives.
PBIS Focus: We congratulate our Year 4 students on the excellent effort and behaviour they have demonstrated so far, particularly in line with this week’s PBIS focus.
Be Safe – keeping hands, feet and objects to themselves, following the rules, and asking for adult help when needed.
Be Respectful – using kind words, including others, and caring for people and property.
Be Your Best – trying their hardest, making positive choices, learning from mistakes, and persevering when things feel challenging.
Enjoy your week,
Year 4 team
