Friday 5th June … Pupil free day
Monday 8th June … King’s Birthday public holiday

Literacy
Last week we started reading our new class novel, Waves. The book, a narrative nonfiction, is about the waves of migration to the shores of Australia. We will beusing the stories of the refugees leaving their home, their families, their friends and all they knew as inspiration for writing a historical narrative, based on the life of amigrant, hoping to strike it rich by coming to Australia during the gold rush.
Maths
In Maths we are learning about Time ~ focusing on reading timetables and converting 12- and 24-hour time. All the Year 5s have set a personal goal, identifying an area of time they would like to work on.
Inquiry
We have continued looking at important events in Australian history, in particular the events that led up to the Gold Rush of the 1850s and the influx of gold seekers to Victoria. We are learning about gold mining, licences, the Eureka Stockade and the rebellion of the miners in preparation for our Sovereign Hill camp. Last week we started working on our gold rubric, completing activities to earn karats for our end of term auction. Have a look at some of the fabulous work that has already been completed...
Cross Country
Congratulations to all our Year 5s on their fantastic efforts at Cross Country last Thursday. Everyone put in their best effort racing all the way to the finish line. Wishing the students heading off to Wangaratta on Wednesday to represent the school at the Zone Cross Country all the very best.
Year 9 Market Day
Our Year 5s were very lucky to attend the Year 9 Market Day at the College last week. They purchased lots of yummy goodies and had a go at some of the different activities on offer. Thank you for supporting the Year 9s and helping them with theirfundraising.
Home Reading
REMINDER Students in Year 5 are encouraged to read at home for a minimum of 80 minutes perweek. This is to be recorded in their school diary. Diaries are used at school throughout the week, so we ask that rather than taking diaries home, children record their reading each morning as part of their daily set up. Diaries will be checked by class teachers each Friday.
