From the Year Prep Classroom

It continues to be busy as we head into the final weeks of Term 2. With Sacred Heart Day, our excursion to the Library and even an incursion next week our days are full. We understand everyone is getting tired as the term comes to a close. We are in awe of the amazing resilience and enthusiasm the students show each day.

We were incredibly proud of the fantastic effort and perseverance shown by our Prep students during last Thursday’s fun run. It was wonderful to see everyone giving it their best and, most importantly, enjoying themselves—especially when it came time to celebrate with cupcakes and juice after the big run! A big thank you to all the parents who came along to cheer them on and support the event.

Hearing Screening – Sound Scouts

Later this term, the school will be conducting hearing screenings using Sound Scouts as part of supporting student wellbeing and learning. Please refer to the email sent last week for more information. If you could provide permission as soon as possible, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to those who have already responded. A report from the screening will be emailed directly to parents/carers.

English:

In English, we continue to learn new letters and their sounds. Lou Lou Ladybug was introduced this week. Discussing with your child about words that start or end with L will be a great way to integrate their learning into some afterschool chat.

Continuing to practise the ‘tricky words’ will also help your child to recognise them whilst reading but also to be able to write them in our writing sessions.

Maths: In Mathematics, we have recently been learning about 2D shapes. Students have practised identifying, creating, describing and comparing the features of basic shapes. We have now begun our new unit on Counting and Place Value. During this unit, students will practise counting forwards and backwards, writing numbers, counting collections, and understanding concepts such as “one more” and “one less.” We spend a significant amount of time working with numbers to 20 because it builds a strong foundation for future learning. By manipulating, partitioning and representing numbers in different ways, students develop a deep understanding of how numbers work. This understanding makes it easier for them to work confidently with larger numbers as they progress.

Jumpers/Jackets

As the sun has lost its intensity, hats are no longer required outdoors. However, as temperatures continue to drop, we are noticing that jumpers and jackets are more likely to be misplaced or lost. Please ensure that all clothing items are clearly labelled so they can be easily returned to their owner.

We also currently have two missing jackets that are named. If you notice a jacket at home that has a name on it that isn’t your child’s, could you please return it to the classroom teacher so it can be given back to its owner.

We hope you all enjoy the extended long weekend this week. As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
