Celebrating School Gardens at Kuranga Native Nursery in Mount Evelyn, with Ms. Strathairn and Ms. Courtney
Imagine having breakfast with the principal of your school and getting to listen to passionate people talk about saving seeds from plants, garden clubs in schools and celebrating growth of individuals trying to make a difference!
One of these passionate people is the infamous Costa Georgiadis, from Gardening Australia! This man spoke about celebrating student engagement in school gardening programs and how it can make such a big difference in their lives as well as ours as educators.
Currently at Bundoora Primary, we've had a few cockatoos prove themselves quite successful at eating our lettuce faster than we can grow it!
Although it can feel frustrating seeing our well plants seemingly disappear overnight, this is a great opportunity for us to look at planting the right food for the cockatoos instead! They enjoy eating native plants like Banksia's and Hakea's which can take a few years to be properly established. So, in the meantime Ms. Courtney will be accepting disco balls in all sizes to hang near our garden beds to deter them - at least a little! 🤞
Here are some photos from our recent project at Tuesday Garden Club, planting Organic Sweet Corn in a mini greenhouse 🌽
