What a fantastic term it has been in the 1/2 team! We are so proud of the growth, effort, and enthusiasm our students have shown in their learning. From building confidence in reading and writing to exploring new maths concepts and developing teamwork skills, it has been wonderful to see each child shine in their own way.
As we head into the final days of term, we’d love to share some of the highlights from our classrooms.
Grade 1 Dinner and Grade 2 Sleepover
What an exciting and new experience for our 1/2 students! Once our students arrived they started setting up their beds and enjoying some games and a movie. We watched ‘Finding Dory’ and ate some delicious pizza with juice. It was fantastic to see everyone using their best manners and enjoying a meal and movie together. After dinner it was time to head home for the grade 1’s and the grade 2’s had a quick little dance party to burn off some energy before snuggling down for the night. We hope that all the students have shared these fond memories with you, especially as for some, this was their first time away from home! Well done everyone for showing amazing resilience and friendship throughout the night!
Maths
In Maths, the Grade 1/2s have been exploring fractions. Students have been busy folding paper to create and identify halves, quarters, and eighths, as well as shading parts to show their understanding. They have enjoyed seeing how one whole can be shared into equal parts and discovering the different ways fractions can be represented.
The Grade 1/2s have also been exploring the relationship between multiplication and division. They have been learning how groups of numbers can be combined and then shared equally, discovering how these two operations are connected. Through hands-on activities and problem-solving, students are beginning to see patterns and build a stronger understanding of these important number concepts.
Literacy
In Literacy, the Grade 1/2s have been learning all about narratives. They have been exploring how stories have a clear beginning, middle, and ending, and how characters, settings, and feelings help bring a story to life. Students have enjoyed creating their own imaginative stories and sharing ideas to make their writing more detailed and engaging. We can’t wait for you to read the incredible stories your children have been writing!
Discovery
In Discovery, the Grade 1/2s have been learning about where they live in the world. They began by exploring our suburb and city before looking at our state and country. Students have also been discovering the wider world, learning about the seven continents and how each one is unique. To extend their learning, each student is working on a project exploring one continent of interest, where they can dive deeper into its landmarks, population, and special features. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity grow as they make connections between their own lives and the world around them.
Careers Day
We recently celebrated Careers Day, and it was such a joy to see the Grade 1/2s dress up as what they would like to be when they grow up. From doctors and teachers to athletes, scientists, and everything in between, the students proudly shared their dreams for the future. It was a fun and inspiring day that encouraged students to think about the many possibilities ahead of them.
As we come to the end of a busy and rewarding term, we would like to thank all our families for their ongoing support. We hope you have a wonderful and restful holiday break, filled with time to relax and enjoy spending time with your loved ones. We look forward to seeing everyone back refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning!
