Sensory Space

We understand that every child experiences the world in their own unique way. That’s why we’re proud to offer a Sensory Space, a calm, supportive area designed to help students self-regulate, relax, and refocus in the Palace area.

Whether it’s through soft lighting, textured materials, gentle sounds, or calming activities, our sensory space provides a safe environment for children who may feel overwhelmed, anxious, or just need a quiet break during the school day.

Our space is especially helpful for students with sensory processing needs, but all children can benefit from a moment to recharge. Supporting emotional wellbeing is an important part of learning, and our sensory space is just one way we help students feel safe, calm, and ready to thrive.

R U OK? Day

On Thursday, 11th September, we recognised R U, OK? Day, a National Day of Action dedicated to reminding everyone to check in with those around them and ask a simple but powerful question: “Are you OK?”

This year, our staff took a moment to pause, connect, and support one another. Staff gathered in the staffroom to share a cupcake and a meaningful conversation, highlighting the importance of mental wellbeing in our school community.

While cupcakes brought smiles, the message behind the day was even more important: A conversation could change a life. We continue to encourage all students, staff, and families to check in with each other, not just on R U, OK? Day — but every day.

Tuning into Kids

We’re excited to share that in Term 4, will be hosting the Tuning into Kids program, facilitated on-site by Kids First.

This evidence-based parenting program is designed to help parents and carers support their child’s emotional development. Through a series of practical sessions, parents will learn how to:

  • Recognise, understand, and respond to their child’s emotions in supportive ways
  • Build stronger parent-child connections
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional resilience

Tuning in to Kids focuses on emotion coaching as a key tool for nurturing children's social and emotional wellbeing — helping them to better manage anxiety, frustration, and relationships.

Sessions will be run by trained facilitators from Kids First and will be available to a limited number of families. It’s a fantastic opportunity for parents who want to strengthen their understanding of their child’s emotional world in a supportive, confidential environment. Please see the attached flyer for more information. For registration, please contact Kate on kate.bonazza@education.vic.gov.au

CALM YOUTH

We are grateful to have been successful in receiving a grant to host the highly sought-after Calm Youth Passion Program in Term 4!

This unique opportunity will see Calm Youth working closely with a selected group of our Year 5/6 students and their families, focusing on building confidence, connection, and creativity through a passion-based program.

The program is designed to help young people explore their interests, express themselves, and develop positive pathways — all while strengthening relationships with peers, school, and family. It’s about tapping into what makes each student feel inspired and supported.

We’re proud to be partnering with Calm Youth, whose work is grounded in community, wellbeing, and youth empowerment. We look forward to seeing our students thrive as they engage in this meaningful and exciting initiative.

Stay tuned for more updates as the program begins next term!

Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing term break!
