Term 2 was a big one for Augustine, and the Athletics Carnival was the highlight.
We did not take out the shield. What we did do was turn up. Every single Augustine student who was there competed in something, and the ones who were not competing were on the sideline making noise for the ones who were. That is the goal Ava and Jasmin set back in February, participation and fun, and I watched it happen in front of me all day. I could not have been prouder of them.
The Simpsons theme was committed to properly. Cardboard doughnuts, yellow face paint, a blue wig that survived a full day in the sun, and a house tent that could be heard before it could be seen. Thank you to the students who spent their own time cutting, painting and gluing, and to the staff who joined in rather than standing safely off to the side.
Ava Phillips and Jasmin Sayed have continued to be outstanding. Our House Assemblies
this term have been genuinely fun, which is harder to pull off than it sounds. The doughnut speed eat is now the thing students ask about the moment I mention an assembly is coming. What people do not see is the work behind it: the planning, the running around at lunchtimes, the checking in on younger students, the quiet organisation that makes the loud part look easy. They set a high bar for the Year 11s who take over next.
Our Year 12s also celebrated their Formal last term. The Masquerade theme was beautiful, and our Augustine seniors looked wonderful. It is a strange feeling watching a cohort you have known since Year 7 walk in looking like adults. They carried themselves with real warmth and pride on the night, and that says a lot about who they have become.
Looking ahead to the rest of the term, Augustine home forms will be running stalls at St Stephen's Day supporting Rosies Friends on the Street, and we will have a presence at Open Afternoon on 1 September. Both will need students to get involved, so keep an eye out for details.
Thank you to our students, staff and families for another strong term. Participation and fun is still the goal, and Augustine is delivering on it.
