St Stephen's Students Showcased in Cairns Post School Sports Excellence Feature

Azahlia Sweeper

In 2026, Azahlia was awarded age champion for the school and district Cross Country, age champion at the school swimming carnival and represented the Peninsula region in Aquathlon at the State Championship in February at Hervey Bay. 

Cleone Jaques 

Cleone has represented Peninsula at the Queensland Athletics State Championships for the past two years and this year proudly represented Peninsula in her favourite sport, netball, competing in Brisbane as part of a talented Peninsula team.

Jake Harris

Last year was Jake's first year representing St Stephen's Catholic College for Peninsula Cricket at the 13-14 Years Cricket State Championships held in Rockhampton in December 2025.

Kye Harris

Kye has represented St Stephen's Catholic College several times for Peninsula Cricket. 

This year his Peninsula team came Runners Up in the 15-19 Years Cricket State Championships held in Brisbane in March 2026. 

Kye was also awarded age champion at the school's athletics carnival in 2025.

Simbaraishe Makoti

Simbaraishe was part of the Peninsula team competing at the Football State Championships (15 years boys), 21-24 May 2026 at the Moreton Bay Sporting Complex in Burpengary.

Ulrich Wilson

Ulrich Wilson is a 15 year old swimmer for Marlin Coast Swimming Club. Living in Mareeba, he travels to Cairns 7-8 times a week for training and represented his club and region at the inaugural Queensland Country Championships in Rockhampton in January. Ulrich later qualified for the Peninsula School Swimming team and competed in six events in Brisbane.

He was also crowned Age Champion and 2nd Runner-Up distance Champion at the FNQ Swimming championships in March. His next goal is to swim at the Australian Age Championships in April 2027.
