Adventure with Purpose: Walk the Larapinta, Change Lives

Imagine standing atop Mount Sonder as the sun rises over the ancient West MacDonnell Ranges. The vast red landscape stretches to the horizon, the air is still, and for a moment the world seems wonderfully simple. In July 2027, that experience could be yours – and it could help change lives.

The Queensland and Northern New South Wales Lions Medical Research Foundation (LMRF) has partnered with Inspired Adventures to launch the LMRF Larapinta Trek 2027, a five-day fundraising adventure along one of Australia's most iconic walking trails.

This is far more than a scenic walk. Every participant who takes on the 39-kilometre challenge will be helping fund vital medical research. For more than 60 years, LMRF has supported emerging researchers working to improve outcomes for conditions including cancer, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, asthma and kidney disease.

The trek combines adventure, achievement and connection. Participants will walk through spectacular outback landscapes, climb Mount Sonder for a breathtaking sunrise, visit remote waterholes, camp beneath clear desert skies and experience the rich cultural heritage of Central Australia. 

Importantly, you do not need to be an elite athlete to take part. The trek is rated moderately challenging, with experienced guides supporting participants throughout the journey. Fundraisers will also receive assistance to help reach their fundraising target and maximise their impact.

For seniors seeking a meaningful challenge, this is an opportunity to prove that adventure has no age limit. Every step taken on the Larapinta Trail will help support the next generation of medical discoveries.
