Year 5/6 - Senior Unit

What a wonderful term we have had in 5/6! It has been fantastic to see how much each student has grown, and we are incredibly proud of the progress the entire cohort has made this term. From their learning to their attitude and effort, it has been a pleasure to watch them develop.

The past few weeks have been especially busy, with lots of exciting events and opportunities for students to get involved. Our Lap-a-thon was a great success, with students showing enthusiasm, determination, and plenty of school spirit. We have also kicked off the Premier’s Reading Challenge, and it has been wonderful to see so many students already engaged and motivated to read.

Senior Summer Sports has been another highlight, with students participating in teeball, cricket and volleyball. It has been fantastic to see their teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship on display, as well as the way they supported and encouraged one another.

In the classroom, students have done a fabulous job creating and sharing their Gold Rush Mystery Boxes. The creativity, effort, and historical understanding shown in these projects have been outstanding. It was wonderful to see students confidently present their characters and bring the Gold Rush era to life.

Words From the Students of 5/6 A

This term we had alot of fun. We did alot of things like senior sport, lapathon, camp and much more. We want to thank all the teachers and parent helpers who helped with everything because it was very helpful.

The past two weeks of term one have been BUSY.  One of the main things we have been focusing on is the Goldrush which is why we went to Sovereign Hill for camp.

We have also been writing stories in writing and creating Mystery Boxes in Inquiry both from the perspective of someone living on the goldfields which has been super fun!

- Poppy Mullen

This term has been very fun, we have been doing lots of sports such as lapathon/the colour run and senior sport! In lapathon you would have heard that students ran around the school and on the oval and they had colours thrown at them. In senior sport some of the students went to participate in either Volleyball, Cricket or Teeball in Romsey. We all did very well but nobody went into the next round. Thank you to all the parent helpers at the lapathon who enjoyed throwing colours at the kids. And the donations for the school.

- Evie Bates

This term we have had so much fun learning about fractions, mixed numerals and improper fractions and how to convert them. We have also been learning about multiplication, it has been so interesting to see how others grow within their learning and which techniques suit the best for them. We are so excited for next term.

Hello everyone, we are some senior unit leaders and we are going to tell you some things we did this term that were great. We did Lapathon. It was a super fun experience where you could spot wombats or you could run as fast as you can. Everyone tried their hardest, which is really good.  Also we  did senior sports! which included cricket, teeball and volleyball. Everyone had so much fun and they went there and did their best.Weve also been learning about the gold rush era in the  1850s. We get to a mystery box which includes who you are talking about and people have to try and guess which person you did.

Our narratives have been really fun and a good experience to know what it's like back in the Gold Rush era. In writing and inquiry we are making mystery boxes that we saw at sovereign hill that  included four clues that you need to do such as licence or an object that can tell where a person works or does in the daily life of a miner or a cook or anything or anything else that's in the gold but you both said.  In maths we have been learning about fractions which have helped us to summarize what we have done in the past right fractions and to mix fractions. Thank you to all the parent helpers for  helping  out, supporting us and running some of the events thank you. - Alexa, Abbey and Audrey 😁

This has been an amazing term, we have participated in a lot of sports activities including lapothon and colour run and senior sport was good. The people who made it in the team went to Romsey. Moving on to the math subject, in theon the first couple of weeks we learnt about the cartesian plane and the Y axis and the X axis, later on in the term we started reviewing multiplication. summing it up for maths for the term we were learning about fractions, - Alice, Emily and Heidi

In term 1 the year 5/6s had lots of fun in activities in and outside the classroom. I think all the classes have mingled and ringled with others in the cohort. We did a bit of research and the majority of the kids said that senior sports was the highlight. We participated in cricket, volleyball and t ball. A couple of teams got very close to making it through to the next round but sadly no teams got there. We are still very proud of our students for participating and doing their best. It was really fun with everyone doing sport. Another thing a lot of people liked was the gold rush writing about the history of the gold rush, some people wrote about bushrangers, miners and other significant roles from the gold rush. In maths we have learned about multiplication, coordinate planes and fractions which after explained was really fun and understandable.- Beau, Harry and Jermaine

In the past two weeks, class 5/6A went for a fun run in the sun in the 2026 lapathon. Everyone got so many runs and everyone had so much fun. The most fun part was the colour run. Also on the same day, we did the 2026 TUG OF WAR! We haven't done it for years. Every class got to fight against other classes and at the very end all the strong Year 6s got to fight against the teachers. - Jacob, Rory and Jaun Rae
