Dear Families, 

It has been another wonderful week of learning in Year 4, with students continuing to demonstrate curiosity, perseverance and enthusiasm across all learning areas. As we move into next week, students will continue to build on their knowledge and skills through engaging and meaningful learning experiences. Thank you for your continued support of your child's learning—we look forward to another fantastic week together. 

Year 4 in Term 3:

Religious Education:

Next week in Religious Education, students will explore the connections between Passover, the Last Supper and the Eucharist. They will consider the actions of Jesus at the Last Supper and how these connect to the Eucharist celebrated today. 

English:

Next week in English, students will finish reading Storm Boy and consolidate their understanding of writing effective conclusions for information reports. They will practise summarising key ideas and creating clear, engaging conclusions that bring their reports to an effective close. 

Mathematics:

Next week in Mathematics, Year 4 students will focus on time. They will practise reading analogue and digital clocks, using am and pm, and solving simple elapsed-time problems.  We will use the VLS model to make our mathematical thinking visible and explain our strategies. 

Integrated Curriculum:

Next week in Integrated Studies, students will explore how actors build dramatic tension to keep an audience interested. They will use pauses, movement and expressive skills to create tension and explain how it communicates a character’s perspective. 

Auslan:

Next week in Auslan, students will explore how the location of a sign can provide clues about its meaning. Students will learn and practise new signs related to thinking, including know, remember, think and wonder, and use these signs to communicate their thoughts while participating in interactive games and activities. Students will also continue developing their understanding of depicting signs by exploring how hand movements can be used to show the size and shape of different objects.

Social & Emotional Learning:

Next week in Social and Emotional Learning, students will learn about what bullying is and what it is not, and explore the important role of an upstander. They will discuss practical strategies for responding safely and respectfully to bullying situations and explain how they could use these strategies in everyday life. 

Important Reminders:

Fidget Toys

We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals. Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home. We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.
